On the East side of the River Exe sits the quaint Devonshire town of Topsham. Flanked by pretty Tudor cottages and Dutch gables, with tethered yachts bobbing in the tranquil waters off the quay and boasting a selection of stylish pubs, restaurants and boutiques, the town is picture postcard perfect.
Victoria Chapel is a truly unique conversion of a former Congregational Church dating back as far as 1839. Imaginatively reconfigured and completely refurbished, the Chapel has been transformed into a contemporary home while retaining the extraordinary space and height of the original historic building. With floor-to-ceiling arched windows and 30ft high vaulted reception rooms the Chapel is flooded with light from all sides.
Offering accommodation across two floors, you and your guests will want for nothing. With a galleried living area, top-notch modern kitchen and designer touches throughout, this unusual home is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and many miles of fantastic coastline.
When you enter the Grade II Listed property through the private courtyard you will quickly see just how much care and attention has gone into the conversion. A generous hallway with polished wooden flooring is a welcoming sight and a convenient spot to drop your luggage before exploring the cool, contemporary and wonderfully chic interior.
Head on through to the open-plan kitchen/dining area and you will find a superbly equipped white-gloss kitchen, with everything you need - a double oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave and a large island with a convection hob and acres of space to prepare meals from fresh, local produce throughout your stay. On one side of the kitchen/dining area French doors lead out to the secluded, walled patio area, a perfect place for intimate al-fresco dining. On the other it flows through to the living area, full of classic modern furniture from B&B Italia and stylish contemporary art on the walls.
The living area will take your breath away with its vaulted ceilings, plush furnishings and stunning standard lamps adding modern mid-century accents. After a busy day exploring the beautiful Devonshire countryside, spend your evenings with friends and family in this delightful open space. Catch up over drinks or settle down for a night of entertainment.
The ground floor is also home to a roomy but cosy double bedroom complete with its own en-suite bathroom. Sumptuous linens, a super-king bed with a deep mattress and stylish furnishings make this bedroom a peaceful haven for you and your loved one. Just down the hallway there is a utility room with complete, modern laundry facilities.
Climb up the stairs and you will be greeted by the mezzanine lounge area overlooking the living room below. A giant corner sofa and a high spec television set-up make this space just right for informal gatherings. With huge arched windows on two sides, the area floods with sunlight, as it dances across the beautiful artwork that hangs just behind.
The bedrooms on this floor are equally as delightful as the rest of the house. The master bedroom has it’s own secret stairway down to a private dressing room and contemporary bathroom, with a deep and welcoming bath and state-of-the-art walk in shower. Super soft towels and high quality toiletries give the bathrooms a five star feel..
There are two further bedrooms boasting super-king size beds (which can be split into singles), bespoke, hand-made wardrobes and giant floor-to-ceiling shutters that seal out the morning sun if you want a lazy start to the day. They share a second, equally well-appointed bathroom with bath, shower, double sinks, high-end fittings and under-floor heating.
