The Details...

Enjoy peace and tranquillity in rural Scotland at Vatersay Cottage, a secluded getaway located in a tiny hamlet at Kytra Lock. Vatersay sits alongside 2 other cottages in this private slice of beautiful countryside.

There is plenty of social space downstairs, with the property having 2 living rooms - 1 with a wood burning stove for those cosy nights in and dining table and chairs. The fully equipped kitchen is compact but well designed and comes complete with an oven, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, kettle, and microwave.

Set across 2 levels are the 3 bedrooms, sleeping up to 5 guests. Each of the double, twin, and single bedrooms combine modern style with the traditional aspects of the cottage. The twin room also has a window seat that overlooks the canal so those staying can sit and watch the world go by. There is also a family bathroom with a bath and shower. Outside is a private garden overlooking the water; an ideal place to sit back, relax, and while the afternoon away with a book or a glass of wine.

Kytra Lock really does allow people to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but is still only 2 miles from Fort Augustus - which sits on the southernmost tip of Loch Ness. The historic hamlet lies on the 60-mile Caledonian Canal and Great Glen Way, which is a favourite route for walkers and cyclists. From here boat trips on the world famous Loch Ness are available, or history lovers could take a trip to nearby Urquhart Castle.

Also on the doorstep is the spectacular Moriston Falls, which plays hosts to leaping salmon at the right time of year and are best seen from the Thomas Telford Bridge. The neighbouring village of Invermoriston is the ideal base for a number of activities, including cycling, walking, horse riding, shooting, and fishing. The town of Fort William in the Western Highlands - known as the gateway to Ben Nevis - and Inverness with its array of shops, bars, and restaurants, are also just an hour's drive away from Vatersay.
