The detail

The Houseboat is a striking piece of contemporary architecture with a unique open-plan, split level design creating interconnected spaces. From the exterior, you can see how the shape of the house forms the hulls of two ships leaning on one another. The award-winning design features a full-height glass frontage to one side which floods the space with natural light while offering stunning views out over Poole Harbour and Lake Pier.

There are four luxurious bedrooms, each with their own character and charm. The stylish en-suite master bedroom, known as the Captain’s Quarters, is at the front of the house and benefits from the floor to ceiling glass windows which open onto a private terrace. The Forward Quarters, another double room, also has an en-suite and a private terrace which takes in those stunning views. If you’re bringing any kids along for the trip, the Midships Cabin is the perfect spot for them with four full-sized single bunks and shares a family bathroom with The Aft Quarters, the final double room.

The living areas, with the dual hull ceiling and split-level design, are unique spaces that all enjoy inspiring views thanks to the glass frontage. The sitting room, with comfy sofas and armchairs, is the perfect spot for curling up with a book, enjoying some evening cocktails together or just soaking up the views. Climb to the very top of The Houseboat and you’ll come to the Eyrie, or the Crow’s Nest. This cosy space, with a huge L-shaped sofa and large TV, overlooks the rest of the house and out over the harbour.

The kitchen and dining area is perfect for entertaining with enough space around the table for 12. It’s fully equipped with everything you need to cook up a storm, including two ovens, five gas burners and plenty of utensils and tableware. To take all the hassle out of your holiday, there are private chefs available to take care of things for you for the day or even the week.

The Houseboat is located in Hamworthy, near Ham Common Nature Reserve which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Spend your days walking on the Common, swimming at Lake Beach or try your hand at fishing off Lake Pier. There is a sailing school and a canoe club nearby and the marina makes a great spot for lunch while you watch the boats come and go.
