The Details...

Hide away in this original World War II bunker and let its endless romance draw you ever closer. Huddled in the heart of Wales’ lush, Monmouthshire hillsides, it is a unique hideout with breath-taking vistas. Flourishing greenery rolls far off into the distance and frames the Severn Estuary and its beautiful scenery. Legendary stories tell of times gone by and are a fascinating part of our modern wartime.

First built in 1941, this historic bunker had a special mission. Charged with diverting attention from nearby bomb targets, it generated decoy lighting to mimic local factories. Now carefully restored to blend old with new, it has a fresh tactic to lure you in. With designer interiors and an epic country backdrop it is a luxury shelter with an eye for adventure.

Designed to blend in with its natural setting, The Decoy Bunker has a Middle Earth exterior. Its wooden façade is set into the hillside, while its grass-lined rooftop curves back into the mountain. Quirky portal windows gaze up at the atmospheric skyline and are joined by south-facing windows with views to die for. Soak up the verdant landscapes and breathe in the fresh country air, before heading past the gate to see what surprises lie in wait.

Behind its camouflaged exterior, you’ll find a contemporary snug that fuses modern touches with a timeless country décor. Sophisticated greys compliment carefully laid floorboards and are joined by soft natural hues and the occasional flash of colour.

Its open-plan arrangement is small but perfectly formed and includes a cosy living/sleeping area with a three-sided log burner. Sleek metro tiles frame the country kitchenette, which looks over the bijoux dining table and sink-in sofa. Peer around the corner to discover your deluxe bedroom that has a sumptuous mattress with incredible mountain views. Catch up on winter evenings and watch the star-lit skies gleam before waking up with bleary eyes amongst Mother Nature’s dream.

The area surrounding the bunker is a well-known walkers paradise and is famous for its untouched, rural areas and unrivalled, natural splendours. Explore the nearby Brecon Beacons and their magnificent mountain peaks or the gorgeous Wye Valley and its protected landscapes. Local towns and villages are also brimming with character and include ancient market towns with delicious, local restaurants. Discover the historic streets of Monmouth or the market stalls of Abergavenny, before stopping off at Usk to explore its majestic castle ruins.

"SUPERB!! A unique and wonderful property restored to an excellent standard, with very modern fixtures and furniture the property is quirky and quite wonderful. The bunker is very peaceful and totally relaxing. Bed very comfy, shower room features an excellent power shower, kitchen is well fitted with full size oven, hob, and fridge with ice box. Kettle, toaster, microwave and cafeteria supplied. As you would expect this is an isolated property and the final approach to the bunker is along a farm track, keep this in mind if you have a low slung sports car! If you want a break from your busy life in perfect isolation then this is the place! Be warned no WIFI and TV reception intermittent, there is a DVD player and a very good Bluetooth speaker/cd/radio. The bunker is very warmed and is heated via electric panel heaters and a large log burner in the centre of the room. We stayed in December and found having used the log burner all day it was too hot in the evening! I highly recommend the property and we are already planning our next stay!"
