Learn moreTucked away in the picturesque Perthshire countryside, The Cottage at Aikenhead House is the perfect rural escape for couples who are looking for a peaceful romantic retreat. The cottage sits within a characterful 200-year-old stone building and adjoins the main house. When you step inside, you’ll find that this charming single-storey escape combines rustic simplicity with thoughtful, modern touches.
Inside, The Cottage has been lovingly designed to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The spacious main living room is flooded with natural light thanks to a giant bay window, where a cute dining table for two offers an ideal spot for romantic meals together. The living space also has a wood-burning fireplace to ensure you stay toasty all-year-round, and a big comfy sofa where you can settle in with a glass of wine or a good book and a nice warm cuppa.
When it comes to meal prep, the kitchen is nicely equipped with modern amenities, and there’s also a BBQ outside in the peaceful private deck where you can take in the views across arable land and out toward the osprey’s nest. There’s a wood-fired hot tub here too, for your exclusive use - perfect for soaking under the stars with a glass in hand. A complimentary basket of logs is provided for your first fire-up (allow about two hours), with more available if you wish to keep the warmth going.
When night falls, the bedroom features a comfy king size bed and a single day bed for an additional guest if needed, while the wet room-style shower is adapted for ease of use.
The owners are big believers in keeping things local and low-impact, and you’ll find organic, seasonal and home-grown touches throughout your stay. You’ll be welcomed with fresh sourdough, eggs from the owners’ free-range hens, butter, milk and locally roasted coffee. They also offer breakfast bundles, antipasti boards, BBQ packs and picnic lunches on request.
You’ll be pleased to know that whilst you’re just three miles from Blairgowrie, you’re a world away from the noise of modern life. Explore the smallholding, chat with the owners about their plans for organic self-sufficiency or head out on adventures.
If you wish to venture out and explore, there’s lots to see and do nearby. Hike scenic trails in the Highlands or cycle through the rolling countryside. Visit charming villages like Dunkeld and Aberfeldy for local shops and cafes. Discover history at Blair Castle or explore the beautiful gardens of Drummond Castle. Enjoy water sports on Loch Tay or go fishing in the River Tay. Wildlife lovers can spot red squirrels and deer, while whisky fans can tour local distilleries like Edradour or Dewar’s.
