Pickwell Manor is a Grade II-listed house just a 20-minute walk to the coast in six acres of flourishing, country grounds. Dating back to the 10th century and with a mention in the ancient Domesday Book, it has a truly legendary past. Now lavishly updated and with a wholesome sense of whimsy, it is a memorable Devonshire setting for all of the family. Grown-up’s will love its unadulterated splendours, while children will thrive in its sense of adventure.
The Apartments at Pickwell Manor are a boutique find and feature a blend of period glamour, natural beauty and chic, coastal vibes. Placed in the grand main house or in the surrounding gardens, they each have stunning rural vistas and ocean backdrops.
Apartments are stylish and boast a timeless attention to detail basking in soft Farrow & Ball shades and luxurious linens. Kitchens are well-equipped and ready to cook up a feast, while living rooms have plump sofas looking out across the country scenes.
The three biggest apartments can be found in the main manor house and sleep between seven and eleven people in three or four sumptuous bedrooms. In-keeping with their historic past and massive proportions, they have impressive original features and soaring high ceilings. Expect plenty of vintage antiques and elegant touches, along with crackling open fires and mullioned windows.
Five further apartments can be found in the beautiful west-wing and sleep between two and six people in one to three soothing bedrooms. These gorgeous apartments have a more cosy, modern feel and combine sophisticated furnishings with subtle coastal hues.
The final two apartments are hidden in the grounds and include the former laundry house and the 16th century chapel. Both have been converted into snug, couple’s hideouts and have their own unique ambience and romantic character. While the former has been finished with a casual beach hut style, the latter fuses decadence with a camper-van design.
Fill your days with endless adventures, exploring Devon and its wild, natural treasures. Putsborough’s windswept sandy beach is just a 20-minute walk away, while Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton have some picture-perfect bays. Build sandcastles on the beach and go surfing in the waves, or bring your mountain bikes and follow the famous Tarka Trail.
Back at Pickwell Manor the kids can run free, conquering ‘pirate island’ and swinging in the trees. They can build dens in the forest and make use of the fun dress-up box, toasting marshmallows on the fire and heading out on a treasure hunt. Challenge them to ping pong games and table football contests or woodland basketball and exciting tennis matches.
