Terra Verde is a beautiful and tranquil home in the heart of Central Portugal that sits within 60 hectares of lush fields and ancient woodlands. This beautifully restored country house sleeps a total of 14 guests, and provides you and your loved ones with a peaceful place to slow down, recharge and connect with the nature around you.
This 18th century country house has been lovingly and carefully restored, creating a space that still holds true its original character, whilst offering you and your group modern comforts and understated elegance. Each room tells a story, with antique wooden furniture and carefully curated decor that shows off timeless craftsmanship and astute attention to detail.
On sunny days, relax in your peaceful gardens, breathing in that fresh country air. The gardens flow effortlessly from the living spaces and you can sit in the Bamboo Garden, unwind beneath the gentle shade of the Linden Tree Garden or gather at the Oriental Corner, where stone and wood create a tranquil, meditative atmosphere. The country house also features two serene terraces - one overlooking the gardens, the other facing the orchard - while shaded seating areas and stone tables near the stream below offer peaceful spots.
When it comes to preparing meals during your stay, you have a superbly-equipped kitchen for self-catering, allowing you to whip up delicious feasts for your group. You can then dine in style in the grand dining room, which sets the scene for social meals together that stretch into the night. However, if you don’t fancy cooking yourselves, you have the option to make use of a private chef from the owners’ exceptional selection of international and local culinary experts.
The home’s adaptable spaces offer plenty of flexibility, ensuring you have a number of options on how to enjoy your time. There’s a charming tea room, an art studio, a game room and areas for workshops, dance and movement, making this stay perfect for group activities, creative retreats and intimate gatherings.
When night falls, you have seven beautifully restored bedrooms to choose from, each blending timeless charm with modern ease. From plush hybrid mattresses that convert between roomy doubles and singles, to Scandinavian-style individual duvets for uninterrupted sleep, every detail is taken into consideration. For added privacy, two rooms can be combined into a self-contained apartment, perfect for families or friends wanting a secluded stay away from the rest of the group.
Terra Verde’s shared showers offer a spa-like experience, with pure spring water, strong pressure and eco-friendly heating from a state-of-the-art heat pump. Polished fixtures, generous space and a smart cleaning alert system ensure they’re always pristine and ready to enjoy.
If you decide to venture out and explore the area, you’ll find that Central Portugal is a hidden gem where rugged mountains meet lush forests and crystal-clear waters. Nestled between the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Açor ranges, this region blends untouched natural beauty with rich history - from wildflower-filled valleys and soaring peaks to ancient architecture and thrilling outdoor pursuits.
Near Terra Verde, the Fraga da Pena Waterfall offers a secluded cascade hidden within the peaceful woodlands of the Açor range. The Schist Villages (Aldeias do Xisto) feature a network of well-marked trails connecting traditional stone hamlets, each with its own unique character. Both guided and self-guided options are available, with skilled local guides providing nature walks, photography tours and survival skills workshops in the surrounding forests.
