The Tennis Shed may be constructed of burnt black larch walls, but it is certainly so much more than a shed. This ultra-modern home which sleeps two to five guests, is peacefully situated amongst wildflowers and an orchard and boasts access to a tennis court, indoor pool and sauna. Its jazzy angular roofs, red front door and wrap around ebony deck present an imposing, futuristic style to match its impressive eco credentials.
The spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area features wooden floors in white ash and the décor ranges in colour from smoky blue to rich navy offset with mustards and barleys. Squashy, cream L-shaped sofas facing a wood burning stove provide the perfect lounging spot to relax with a hot drink or play some board games. Bi-fold doors open onto a wrap-around deck overlooking the newly resurfaced tennis court and allow masses of natural light into the room.
Cooking in the sleek and compact kitchen is a pleasure. There's everything you need from a top-of-the-range coffee machine to a convection hob and separate oven and microwave. The quartz counter-top sits above units in the same smart blue matching the feature wall in the living area. The rustic, wooden dining table sits eight comfortably with built in tongue-and-groove benches on two sides and is the ideal spot to plan your day’s adventures.
Two airy, double bedrooms bookend the bathroom; both have super-king size beds and the bedroom opening onto the rear deck can be configured as a twin if you prefer. Both feature comfortable bedding, chic furnishings and are decorated in neutral, restful tones, ideal for the most peaceful of sleeps.
The large bathroom with its big walk-in shower, brass fixtures and gorgeous marine-coloured wall tiles is the height of modern luxury and comes ready prepared with fluffy towels, bathrobes and toiletries.
Outside you’ll find the wrap around deck area which has comfortable loungers, another table and trestles for eight guests overlooking the tennis court, as well as a gas BBQ and a big Smeg fridge-freezer for alfresco dining. Why not challenge someone to a game of tennis with the loser cooking the evening meal! You’ll also have access to the owner’s private pool house which is found through a gap in the hedge to the rear, surrounded by lawns and hedges, and contains a heated swimming pool, sauna and gym equipment. There’s no excuse to neglect your fitness regime!
You will find plenty to do in the local area if you still have the energy. The pretty village of Ditchling, ten minutes’ walk away, has a variety of pubs where you can sample wine from one of the surrounding four vineyards or take a tour and sample it straight from the producer. You can walk or cycle the South Downs Way or visit nearby nature reserves. A trip to cosmopolitan Brighton is a must where you will find something for everyone whatever their taste.
