The Details...

With panoramic views out over the unspoilt Patterdale valley set at the heart of England’s Lake District, Stone Cottage is a lovingly restored retreat for couples or families looking for luxurious lodgings in a central location from which to explore the Lake Districts glorious landscape.

Renovated by the local architect-owners, everything about Stone Cottage has been cleverly designed to ensure that guests experience the Lake District in tasteful indulgence.

In the beautifully furnished living room, velvet-upholstered sofas and substantial window seats create a warm communal area around an open fireplace, with free logs for the duration of your stay. No compromise has been made in the interior renovation of this Edwardian “barn-conversion”, from the Farrow and Ball paintwork, English designer fabrics to the substantial old oak beams which support the vaulted ceiling in the large kitchen/utility with hand-painted bespoke units and a rich local green slate floor.

Come in from a day spent walking one of the area’s famous trails and shed your coat and boots in the useful rear porch or in the back hallway with lovely reclaimed oak pew. From there, pad through to the kitchen to start cooking up a feast on the AEG Induction cooker and dual steam oven. Or fire up the gas barbecue in the warmer months for an al fresco meal on the sun-trap front terrace attractively paved in local stone. The rear garden is also a delight and has a raised terrace, a great place to stop with a cup of coffee and soak up the views and be disturbed with nothing except birdsong. Luxurious hampers packed with nationally renowned local produce and meals from an award-winning farm shop can be arranged for your stay.

After you’ve eaten, take a long soak while you look out over the hills, or take advantage of the high-spec entertainment system; with 5Mbps wi-fi, Blu-ray player, and SkyQ Box-enabled flat screen TV. There’s something for everyone to enjoy in the long evenings between walking and curling up between the Egyptian cotton bedsheets.

Arranged over two storeys, with a double bedroom, king bedroom, two single rooms and a choice of two bathrooms, there is ample space for family and friends, and plenty of hot water from the oil-fired system which also keeps the house toasty all year round. Between the L’Occitane toiletries and the White Company towels, no element of your stay has been overlooked – the attention to detail is simply incredible.

Stone Cottage is located in the hamlet of Deepdale, a mile from the nearby village of Patterdale, where you’ll find the closest pub, shop and post office. Windermere Station is just eleven miles away, and Penrith, sixteen. Ullswater is just 2 miles away and the here you can step aboard one of the famous “steamers that cruise” this unspoilt lake. Walkers flock to the National Park to climb the many fells and mountains, including the infamous Helvellyn, one of the most exciting climbs the Lakes has to offer and just a stone’s throw from the cottage. The Lakes has something for everyone from Michelin starred restaurants to the clarity of star-studded night skies – it is a breath of fresh air and quite rightly considered to be England’s most beautiful landscape.
