The magazine-worthy Slate Cottage is one good-looking family house near Lymington on the Hampshire coast. Light and large, there’s room for up to nine guests who will all enjoy this pretty area just a stone’s throw from the New Forest.
With its own enclosed garden and a children’s playroom, Slate Cottage is certainly family-friendly, but you won’t need to bring kids with you to enjoy the house. Made for group get-togethers, you have a spacious central dining room and a separate kitchen downstairs, complemented by a huge living space on the upper level – it really is big enough for everyone.
Eye-catching furnishings are found throughout the house, with pleasing nods to 1960s and 70s style. Extensively renovated, the house has a master bedroom with king-size bed and en suite, and a super-king or twin bedroom upstairs.
Downstairs, another king-size bedroom, and a children’s bedroom with a pull-out bed bunk beds, can be found alongside a family bathroom and separate shower room. With all the toys, books and games you could ever want, there’s no need to bring loads of stuff for the family, and there are plenty of luxuries the adults will appreciate too – including a big wood-burner in the lounge and a small terrace off the living room.
Just off the garden is a paddock where two Shetland ponies live, and it’s not unknown to see a deer or two from the New Forest. Slate Cottage gets the best of both worlds, positioned as it is between the country and the coast, and it’s just as easy to head to a beach like Hurst Castle, as the expansive National Park to the north. Dogs are welcome too, and will love the walks.
Lymington is full of independent shops with plenty of antiques, art and vintage fashion, as well as a good number of appealing eateries. A pretty market town with a yacht-lined marina, it’s also the place to get a ferry over to the Isle of Wight. Slate Cottage is only five minutes from the nearest shops and park, with the centre of town within an easy walking distance.

Please expect our short stays to be 60%+ of our weekly prices. We are not a hotel and it takes a huge amount of work, especially with COVID around, to make the house clean and right for guests. Kids in travel cots stay free.
The prices above give a guide only. In peak season the price can be higher than the 'to' price shown here. We use a dynamic pricing structure which means prices can fluctuate slightly on a daily basis. Pricing depends on demand for this house and across the area. We cannot guarantee the prices quoted today will be the same in the future.
