A short distance from Stamford, in quaint and picturesque Rutland, Pea Cottage is a self-contained one bedroom cottage with beautifully designed fixtures and features, making it the perfect place for a romantic getaway. Characterised by tiled floors, large windows and exposed timber beams, Pea Cottage is an architecturally dreamy rural house with everything you need to spend some restive and restorative time in England’s ‘hidden gem county’.
Painstakingly converted from a former barn building, everything about Pea Cottage is a testament to loving, quirky design and aesthetically pleasing layout. A centrally placed wood-burning stove guarantees hygge and cosiness, with a basket of well-seasoned local wood provided for free. The kitchen-dining room is a real treat, with high ceilings and open plan layout. Subtle, timeless country-house chic cabinets and surfaces and a neutral palette characterise this space, which comes with top of the range culinary facilities; everything you need for a home cooked meal and romantic night in.
After a long day of exploring the local area, curl up on the sofa with a bottle of wine and make use of the Smart TV. While away the mornings in your very own private paddock, or pack a picnic into the basket on the tandem included for your use and sally forth into magical, rustic Rutland. Everything has been conceived and fitted with a romantic weekend in mind, from the double-ended luxury bath tub to the super-king sized cashmere bed.
Pea Cottage really does offer everything you need for a mini-break for two, with sufficient living space inside and out that you’ll find there’s no need to leave the grounds. That said, there are a number of beguiling and appealing activities in the immediate vicinity, and the owner’s tandem, helmets, lights and lock are free to use for the duration of your stay. A popular cycle destination is the nationally renowned Rutland Water. It’s 23 miles away Pea Cottage, and 26 miles around, which ought to take around ninety minutes to cycle.
Stamford itself is just a five mile walk or cycle, with its many charming independent shops; the recently opened Kafae tea house is a particular recommendation. Alternatively, head to the historic Burghley House for a 16th century architectural gem, or ride your tandem to The White Hart in under ten minutes. One of the best gastropubs in all of Rutland, it has brilliant food, a great atmosphere, and a wonderful selection of local ales. It can also be reached in twenty minutes on foot. A footpath snakes right past Pea Cottage, meaning that you can leave the house and immediately be on a stunning rustic trail, taking in the flora and fauna or Rutland, beautiful in every season.
