Situated on Oxney Organic Estate, the largest single-estate producer of English organic wine, Vineyard House is a beautiful farmhouse cottage that offers groups of up to 10 guests a marvellous break in the East Sussex countryside. This wonderful, five bedroom holiday home dates back to the Jacobean times and oozes history and charm.
The old farmhouse has been lovingly refurbished, offering modern amenities combined with some older features that allow the home to retain that lovely, rustic, rural character. Think exposed beams, not-so-straight floors and low doorways that may cause the tallest of your group to duck. However, despite this fabulous, country cottage feel, the home still offers all of the elements you need for an enjoyable stay. The modern, Nordic style includes bold colour choices and minimalist design, which provides a comfortable, calming atmosphere throughout your stay.
Vineyard House's cosy living room features deep, dark blue walls and exposed wood. Guests can light the wood burning fireplace before getting comfy on the deep corner sofa with a nice glass of wine as they socialise long into the night. Also on the ground floor, the farmhouse-style kitchen is spacious and nicely equipped with everything you'll need to whip up delicious feasts for your group. There's even a dishwasher so no one gets lumbered with the washing up!
Meals can be enjoyed on the dining table in the lovely dining room that features a large window providing nice views of the garden. In the summer, you may also wish to dine alfresco in the pretty garden that features a nice long dining table that can comfortably seat your whole group. The garden also has a BBQ, for anyone who fancies grilling up some delicious, locally sourced produce.
When bedtime beckons, the cottage has five comfy bedrooms on offer. The fab master bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom for added privacy and the first floor also features a large family bathroom with a shower and a bath. The property has one further bathroom, meaning there should be no queues come the morning. There are also two twin bedrooms and two further doubles on offer. Two of the bedrooms are located up in the attic and are not suited for the elderly or infirm as it is a bit of a climb to get to them and is quite narrow and low.
It's also worth noting that for slightly larger groups, there are also two adorable shepherd's huts on the site, located one field away. You are able to rent these for additional bed space, with each sleeping two guests on a comfy double bed. Each hut also has a small bathroom and a quaint kitchenette.
With farmland, meadows, and the Rother River and valley surrounding the Oxney Organic Vineyard, it really is the perfect place to relax and unwind with family and friends. And if you don't want to venture far, Oxney Organic Estate, where you are staying, has over 35 acres of vines producing excellent wine, which can be sampled in the winery in a beautiful old Grade II listed square oast house. This space has been converted to make quality organic English wine and is the ideal location for winery tours and tastings.
Those of you who do wish to head out and explore will be delighted to know that you're situated close to the border between East Sussex and Kent. You're also a short drive to the postcard-perfect town of Rye with its historic streets and charming pubs. There are also many countryside walks to be discovered right on your doorstep, so be sure to bring your walking boots!
