The detail

Old Purves Hall is a beautiful 16th century peel tower that has been expertly restored and luxuriously updated. Guarding the magnificent Scottish Borders, and their majestic natural scenes, it is a place for special celebrations and sophisticated revelries. Indulge in elegant dinner parties and classic country pursuits, exploring the untouched countryside and its historic, heritage roots. There are refined, stately manors and manicured grounds, overlooking the regimented beauty of the nearby Border towns.

The characterful, three-storey hall is finished with timeless country elegance and fuses its rich and interesting legacy with contemporary luxuries. There’s intricate architectural aspects and salvaged period features, along with delicate prints and tasteful furnishings. Admire the exposed stonework and the beautifully carved beams or the reclaimed dungeon doors and the handpicked antiques. Massive hearths and heated floors keep things warm and cosy, while graceful sash windows frame emerald views of the country.

A stylish cedar-clad extension welcomes you in and is home to a modern cloakroom for your wellies and walking boots. Pass through the light-filled reception hallway and into the original stone house, to find the distinguished drawing room with its convivial ambience. A striking inglenook fireplace makes a stirring focal point and is complimented by a regal colour palette and vintage floral fabrics. There’s an array of deep-set armchairs and smart, sink-in sofas, beside an intimate seating area around a crackling, open fireplace.

A spacious kitchen-diner can be found just next door and combines rustic details with a hi-spec décor. There are state-of-the-art appliances and sleek gloss worktops, alongside a professional range cooker and grand dining table. Spill out into the tranquil gardens for a post-dinner party or slip up to the second floor to find the additional living quarters.

When bedtime beckons you really are spoilt for choice with six large double bedrooms scattered off the first and second floor landings. Each is dressed with impressive king-size beds and boasts high ceilings, classic stylings and carefully curated furnishings. Four family bathrooms add a sumptuous finishing touch and are complete with steaming rainforest showers and indulgent freestanding tubs.

Carefree country days can be spent exploring the local area, walking up the lush, rolling hillsides or along the secluded, sandy coastline. Organise traditional shooting parties or relaxed fishing days, spending afternoons on the golf course or riding the well-worn bridle pathways. Crystal-clear lochs and windswept heaths are perfect for wildlife-spotting and can be followed by fascinating castle tours and cultural, family outings. The charming towns of Coldstream and Kelso can also be found nearby, while a day trip to Edinburgh is full of must-see sights.
