Nestled among the sunflower fields and vineyards in a beautiful French hamlet, La Maison des Fleurs is a stunning and spacious eighteenth century French country farmhouse hidden away in the heart of the peaceful and picturesque Charentes Maritimes region of central western France. La Maison des Fleurs is a relaxing rural retreat where you can get away from it all and enjoy quality time with your friends and family.
This farmhouse has been renovated with style, comfort and taste and will appeal to both young and old, the energetic and the relaxed. Located in a fantastic region with stunning islands, Cognac distilleries and Atlantic beaches to be explored you will not be disappointed with La Maison des Fleurs as your holiday destination.The house is situated in a stunning hamlet in the midst of vineyards and farming land. In the summer the sunflowers appear in the surrounding fields and it really is a sight to see. With all amenities at your disposal you can really relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.
You'll instantly feel at home in this clean, comfortable house. Luxury quality towels, sheets, goose down blankets and pillows are all provided. All of the bedrooms are equipped with flat screen TVs with built in DVD players and access to all the English channels through Sky. Other amenities include Bose Stereo system with speakers, both inside and outside the house, a games room on the first floor with pool table, wood burner and 40" TV and DVD player.
The house also has a wonderful bistro style kitchen that has been named Le Bistrot Pierre featuring a Miele dishwasher, Brittania cooking range and double wine coolers. There is also a Bose speaker system which has an ipod docking station. Le Bistrot Pierre also has a fantastic enamel double log burning stove which heats up the whole house in the winter months. Next door to the kitchen is the utility room which offers a large pantry, Smeg fridge freezer and as well as a washing machine and microwave. Above Le Bistrot Pierre is a mezzanine room which can be used as a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and other elegant furniture.
The most relaxing room in the house is the drawing room and which has been named the Edgar Degas Boudoir because of the fine collection of Dagas Art on the walls. This room also offers a Bose sound system, plasma screen TV/DVD and Sky Digital HD as well as a large open Charantais style fireplace with log burner which is a lovely place to spend those long summer evenings. Also on the ground floor is a stunning hall and family bathroom with a roll top bath.
The house has two staircases. The first set of stairs leads to the mezzanine room above the kitchen and two other bedrooms and bathroom with shower. The second set of stairs start from the drawing room/lounge and leads to two bedrooms - one twin and one double with a Jack and Jill style bathroom which can be accessed by both bedrooms. On this floor there is also a games room with pool table, leather L shaped sofa, 40 inch TV and DVD player and log burner. Another great room to relax with friends or family with views across the sunflower fields.
Take advantage of some of the outdoor attractions that include a screened deck, a lean to sun shade, a sundance spa hot tub, a barbecue and a half acre paddock, which is ideal for rounders, cricket and boules.
Spend an afternoon curled up on one of the sun loungers with a good book in the beautiful private garden; or choose one of the many outdoor activities the area has to offer. The house is located in the Cognac, Saintes and Saint Jean D'angely triangle, which are all no longer than a 30 minute drive away. If you have a passion for good wines and cognac or the local "Pineau" you will be spoilt for choice with the vineyards and distilleries located around the house. Cognac has the world famous Remy Martin and Hennessy distilleries which offer tours from Spring through to Autumn. The coast and the marvellous beaches of the west coast of France is only a 40 minute drive away. La Rochelle and Ile de Re are two fabulous places to visit, each no more than 1 hour from the house. The west coast is renowned for the abundance oysters and seafood, where you're sure to have a wonderful meal looking out to the sea with a lovely crisp glass of wine and a bowl of moules frites. If you want to go further afield you can drive over to the Medoc and tour the wine region and visit the wonderful Chateaus or have a day out in Bordeaux.
Matha is the nearest village to La Maison des Fleurs, just a few minutes in the car and offers bakeries, butchers, supermarkets, and various other shops as well as places to eat. There are an abundance of markets which take place every day in local towns. An outdoor public swimming pool has recently opened in the local village of Matha just minutes from the house.
