The detail

Nestled on a hillside in western Sicily, this home is the stuff that dreams are made of. With gorgeous rural views, it's a tranquil spot that offers easy access to the coast and some of the island's most historic sights.

The interior is the perfect blend of traditional and contemporary style – think crisp white walls and clean lines combined with a collection of antique furniture. The outdoor space is just as impressive – enjoy breakfast out on the balcony each morning as you admire the rural views, before taking a dip in the infinity pool. On sunny afternoons you can stretch out on a sun lounger and catch some rays, then come evening the whole group can enjoy an alfresco feast freshly cooked on the barbeque.

From here, you can hop in the car and arrive at the city of Trapani in just twenty minutes. Stroll through the picture-perfect streets, spend a day on the sandy beach, and visit the 17th-century Torre di Ligny watchtower. And, with Castellammare del Golfo a twenty-five-minute drive away, and the Temple of Segesta a similar distance away, you're unlikely to run out of things to do here.

Ash-topped Mount Etna rises from the heart of Sicily, lending a fiery flair to this sun-kissed island to the south of Italy. The volcanic terroir is perfect for grape, tomato and olive growing and family-run restaurants make the most of juicy beefsteak tomatoes drenched in olive oil, washed down with a glass of sweet Malvasia or fruity Novello.

There are plenty of dining spots to choose from in the buzzing cities of Palermo, Catania and Syracuse. Palermo itself is the capital where you’ll find ancient Byzantine churches, ruined palaces and a 12th-century Cathedral.

The ancient port city of Catania sits in the shadow of Etna and trails lead from here to the summit. Piazzas are filled with restaurants and bars, and the weekly fish market sells the freshest catch of the day. While Syracuse on the Ionian Sea is steeped in Greek myth and legend. Away from the cities, Sicily’s coastline is dotted with villas that have stood for centuries and beaches with turquoise shallows.
