Hive Beach House embraces the very essence of romantic seaside living and offers modern beachside accommodation in a dramatic Dorset location. Mysterious cliff faces and huge atmospheric skies linger, along with desolate grass-covered dunes and secluded, soft-shingle beaches.

Sitting on the pretty shores of Hive Beach in the quiet village of Burton Bradstock, this wooden retreat has an exclusive position on the spectacular World Heritage Coastline. With a sophisticated design and a minimalist edge, it is a romantic hideaway that offers pure, unadulterated bliss. Subtle nautical touches stir a sense of nostalgia, while a neutral décor will immerse you in the calming atmosphere.

The open-plan living area is joined by a galley-style kitchen and has white, wood-clad walls finished with a classic coastal simplicity. A life buoy hangs nonchalantly by the wall, while a traditional striped deckchair sits on quality wood floors. Ocean blue curtains add a touch of colour and frame sea-view windows which are waiting to be discovered.

There are three relaxing bedrooms to be found around the house with each having idyllic views of the incredible landscape. A sumptuous double bedroom can be found downstairs, along with a cosy twin room that has an additional truckle bed. A further double room can also be found hidden at the top of a characterful wooden ladder and can sleep up to four with an optional fold-out futon.

Located on the magnificent Jurassic Coastline and overlooking Lyme Bay, the tiny village of Burton Bradstock is a beautiful place. Its never-ending shoreline and rugged cliffs will awaken your senses, while the charming town of Lyme Regis can be spotted in the distance. With its stunning backdrop and picturesque harbour, the historic town oozes with a natural charisma. Explore the striking cliff paths to spot some ancient fossils or look down from above to gaze over the far-reaching golden beaches.

Closer to home, the much-admired Hive Beach Café can be found just across the sands and has an outstanding menu of fresh seafood dishes waiting to be explored. Treat yourself to some shellfish or watch the waves lulling by, before letting the soothing sea breeze whisk your troubles away.

"My partner and I stayed for four nights in June and the property was lovely. Very spacious, well equipped and well decorated. The location is superb with coastal walks in either direction, the likes of Weymouth and Portland only a short drive away and the amazing Hive Beach Café right on your doorstep (try the waffles, chocolate sauce and marshmallows for breakfast!).

Why four stars? Two reasons.

One, the hot tub has been decommissioned due to both changes in the regulations governing hot tubs and guests not respecting it, filling it full of sand and the like. This is understandable but the property is still being advertised as having a hot tub.

Two, and this is the main point, the lack of privacy. Hive Beach is very popular and this in itself is not a problem. The problem is the property is only surrounded by a very low wall and there is nothing to stop people getting into the garden, which they did daily. From people using the garden as a shortcut to the carpark to inquisitive kids poking around (not to mention the people right outside of the bedroom doors one morning trying to get their kite off the roof), there seems to be a lot of foot traffic where there really should be none at all. If the hot tub had been working, I doubt we would have used it with the number of people passing by!

In summary, we had a lovely time at Hive Beach House but with two of its prime features (the hot tub and it being a hideaway) being negated, it loses a star from what would have been a five star rating.

CoolStays Admins responded: We were informed of the removal of the hot tub recently and there was a period when the listing was incorrectly stating its availability - we've since amended the listing to reflect this."
