  The Detail...

Goodnestone Park, the family home of Lord FitzWalter, is a magnificent example of a quintessential English stately home. Built in 1704, it is said that Jane Austen was a regular visitor and took inspiration from her experiences there for Pride and Prejudice. Still as grand as ever from the exterior, the interior has recently undergone an extensive restoration which retains the traditional style but with a contemporary twist. The rooms are elegant and fabulously furnished without being formal. With five reception rooms and sleeping up to 24 guests in 12 bedrooms, most of which are ensuites, Goodnestone House is perfect for celebrations, corporate events or even weddings.

The exquisite interior design following the restoration maintains the stately homes original classical Queen Anne elegance while interweaving modern comforts. Some of the bespoke furniture made for the house in the eighteenth century remains alongside new pieces which celebrate the current generation of the FitzWalter family. Several of the bedrooms are named after family members and have been decorated to reflect their interests. The rural theme in Franciss room reveals his love of the countryside and Henrys room reflects his equestrian career.

There are several reception rooms, some perfect for entertaining and others where you can find a few moments of peace and quiet. The majestic drawing room and dining room were designed with big parties in mind whereas the library and the Jane Austen room are peaceful spaces you can slip off to and relax. The impressive kitchen boasts a whole range of state of the art appliances, including four ovens and hobs. Guests can choose to be self-catering or fully catered by chefs from renowned local restaurants.

The 15 acres of spectacular gardens show off the finest of classically English planting and are home to some ancient trees. The grounds immediately surrounding the house are for the exclusive use of guests and the wider garden is open to the public. The Walled Garden is particularly beautiful with exotic plants in the ornamental greenhouse and a range of stunning climbers adorning the walls. If you venture outside the grounds, youll find yourself in the picturesque countryside of Kent which can be explored by foot or bike. A whole range of activities can be arranged for your stay from spa treatments at the house to balloon and helicopter rides.
