The Details...

Discover Northern Spains secret, rural gems with a stay at this chic stone cottage in the stunning Asturias mountains. Hidden in a sleepy hamlet amongst dramatic, tree-lined peaks, it is a mesmerising hideout with views not to be missed. Eye the flourishing Cabrales Valley with its wildflower meadows or the forest-topped hillsides with their crystal-clear waters.

Casa Cusau overlooks this breath-taking wilderness and is nestled in the narrow streets of La Molina hamlet. Its newly-built structure features original, local stone and has been carefully designed to blend in with its neighbouring, village homes. Its south-facing front looks out over the verdant scenery where you can enjoy the undiscovered jewels of this natural tapestry before retreating to the balcony to gaze at the star-studded views and maybe see the moon rise over the mountain peaks.

Beyond the classic faade lies a designer interior that is minimalist, contemporary and beautifully understated. Showcasing natural materials and exquisite, local craftsmanship, it bares its mottled, plaster walls and wooden framework. Modern artwork is joined by subtle homely touches, including book-lined shelves and an open fireplace. Occasional vintage pieces add a depth of character and blend in discreetly with its unassuming nature.

The first floor living area is practical and chic, with a sleek, modern kitchen and stylish dining table. Comfy sofas are perfect for quiet nights in, while the mountain-view balcony is on hand for pre-dinner drinks. Head down the open staircase to find the two double bedrooms, which fuse stripped-back stylings with warm, cosy bedding. A large family bathroom is shared between the two and has a deluxe walk-in shower with marble tiling.

Beyond your garden terrace there is a natural kingdom to uncover, with inspirational, mountain walks through beautiful, unspoilt forests. The majestic Picos de Europa National Park is right on your doorstep and has rugged, rocky landscapes teamed with romantic, natural falls. Hike through the ancient Chestnut Forest or along the Casao river banks, before traversing the steep gorges and the winding, valley basin.

Explore the historic, hillside villages or the impressive green coast and youll find secluded, sandy beaches and glorious, food markets. Pretty fishing villages are also dotted along the clifftops and are a cultural extravaganza with delicious, seafood restaurants.
