In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Welsh Coast, Ty Coch is a collection of 3 former agricultural buildings, available as a package, on a self-catering basis. Lovingly renovated in 2007, Ty Coch offers 5 acres of stunning greenery, the dream spot for anyone looking to spend a restorative time in a gorgeous space.
The Barn is a former pigsty, now sleeping two adults and two children in a bedroom with a single king size bed and two fold-down singles. It is tastefully decorated in a contemporary style with sofas that seat six facing the large glazed wall which provides an uninterrupted view across the field to the sea. The glazed floor-to-ceiling door slides open making guests feel as though they are outside.
The Dairy started life as a milking shed, and now sleeps four guests in two private bedrooms which can be made up as super king or twin rooms. Each bedroom has a large glazed window seat giving views over the stream and across the fields towards Yr Eifl. It is a modern space, benefitting from a single family bathroom, a large modern, well equipt kitchen and a table seating up to 10. In the summer months the sun sets directly in-front of the kitchen windows. The end gable is made up of floor-to-ceiling bi-folding doors which open out a brand new and spacious deck. Step through the bi-folding doors onto the deck, where you’ll find an alfresco dining table and benches and an out door cooking area with a bbq and woodfired pizza oven offering a lovely spot to enjoy a hearty meal in the fresh air whilst taking in the amazing views. Both buildings benefit from underfloor heating which is powered with completely carbon neutral ground source heat pump energy. There is a wood fired out door bath beside the stream and next to the The Mill which provides guests with a place to relax by the fire log after a soak in the tub
While the cottages are a delight, the real appeal of the Ty Coch is the sprawling wilderness of the estate itself. The site of an ongoing ‘re-wilding’ project from 2009, Ty Coch is a haven of flora, fauna, and untrammelled nature left to find its own balance. As well as ponds, lakes, shrubs and meadows, this ten acre patch of paradise which enjoys its very own beach access. There is an original shepherd’s hut-cum-workman's wagon, replete with original bunks, table, bench, storage cupboards and tiny wood burner down by the shore, which is the perfect spot to steal a few hours of quiet reading, reflecting time or for getting changed and warming up after an invigorating sea swim.
Ty Coch is a paradise for outdoors enthusiasts, and the beautiful mediaeval church of St Beuno in the village of Clynnog Fawr is well worth the short walk. Ty Coch is well placed for easy access to Eryri National Park or Ynys Mon/Anglesey. For everything from sailing to Iron Age forts, coasteering to brilliant pubs, this is a great place to explore on a mini-break or extended stay. Menai Bridge has &Caws for all things cheese related including Fondue Fridays, Dylans restaurant and deli and Sospan & the Old Butchers, a Michelin starred restaurant - be sure to book well in advance. Alternatively Y Marram in Newborough has a delicious seasonal and locally sourced menu, all served in a marquee! If you make the trip to Beaumaris, The Bulls Head Inn serves great food and local bitter. Two Islands Ice cream in Abersoch and Poblado Coffee in Nantlle are both well worth a visit!

Leave a reviewThis house is spectacular. The sea views each morning will be missed. The house has everything you need no matter what the weather. Lots of garden games when the sun is shining or board games in front of the fire on a rainy evening. We will most certainly be returning. This house has was perfect for us a group as we all had our own cottage and could do our own thing but the two larger cottages had more than enough space for us to all eat and socialise together. The owners were fabulous at keeping in contact and very helpful with things to do during our stay.
