The UK trips travel influencers are planning after lockdown - Alice Tate

2nd March 2021

We asked some of our favourite travel influencers which UK spots they're most looking forward to visiting once lockdown finally ends.

Travel writer Alice Tate @alicetate can't wait to go camping in Dorset, wander the South West Coast Path, swim under Durdle Door, and eat fish and chips in Swanage.

Where are you heading when lockdown is lifted?
I've really held off planning or booking anything for fear of being disappointed(!) but finally got round to plotting out a couple of UK adventures for the summer this weekend, and now I'm super excited! We're actually going back to some of our favourite spots from last summer — Dorset and Cornwall — both of which were first-time visits for us, so I guess we're just making up for lost time. I really couldn't get enough of them, I love being by the sea with endless swimming opportunities and quiet coves and beaches to explore. In Dorset, we're specifically going back to the same campsite we camped at last summer. It was our first jaunt out of lockdown 1.0 and I just have the fondest memories of the whole trip!

What is your favourite thing to do whilst there?
So, the South West Coast Path runs around both Dorset and Cornwall, which I love for its guaranteed beautiful easy-to-follow walks with epic coastal scenery. I'm bad at maps and good at getting lost so maybe that's why I'm so enamoured by the Coast Path — you can't really go wrong! In Dorset, we did the National Trust South Purbeck Cliffs walk and stopped for a swim at Dancing Ledge which was bliss — we'll definitely do that one again. Plus fish and chips in Swanage — we ate so many fish and chips on that trip!! Oh, and swimming under Durdle Door — a bucket-list swim for sure!

Other local tips?
For Cornwall, my treasured highlights are Carbis Bay (so tropical — it would pass for the Caribbean!), swimming in Jubilee Pool in Penzance (it was stormy and SO COLD but wildly invigorating!), and dinner at Tolcarne Inn in Newlyn (so good we tried to go on consecutive nights but they were full!).
