A gorgeous barn conversion on the Monsal Trail, just a few miles from Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District…
Soak up the striking natural beauty of the iconic Peak District, at this gorgeous barn conversion in the village of Great Longstone. Set back on a quiet, country lane on the famous Monsal Trail, Top Shippon is a charming home overlooking magnificent limestone dales. Walk, bike or drive, through the dramatic open landscapes, past ancient moorlands, craggy cliffs and flourishing river valleys. Admire the white and dark peaks and the atmospheric skies, or the chocolate-box villages folded in the hillsides.
Top Shippon is woven into this beautiful, rural tapestry and was once a working cowshed on the local farmstead. Now expertly restored and stylishly converted, it is a contemporary cottage with an exquisite attention to detail. Expect classic oak doors to reveal designer interiors, which blend minimalist country-chic with a rustic simplicity. There’s quirky animal prints and soothing neutral colours, alongside ageing, oak timbers and stunning panoramas.
The open-plan living area is warm and inviting with double aspect windows looking out across the landscapes. Vintage beams sit atop its crisp whitewashed walls, looking down on the plush sofas, natural textures and crackling wood burner. From here, you can step up to the light-filled dining room or head further back to find the well-equipped kitchen-diner.
Upstairs, amongst the eaves, are the two luxury double/twin bedrooms finished with sumptuous beds, boutique wallpaper and super-soft furnishings. A modern en-suite shower adds to the master double, and is joined by an upstairs family bathroom with period stylings. A single roll-out futon is also on-hand in the second double bedroom, along with a double, pull-out sofa bed back down in the living area.
While away your days in the peaceful, cottage garden, breathing in the fresh country air or lighting the coal-fired BBQ. There’s a flat lawn for the kids and an alfresco picnic table, where you can sit back in awe of the untouched, rural landscapes.
Walkers and nature-lovers will find themselves spoilt for choice with mesmerising country trails winding through rocky cliffs and river dales. Head to the majestic Monsal Head for its breath-taking outlook or visit Baslow and Curbar Edges for rock climbing adventures. Follow the Monsal Trail down the ancient railway line or visit Bakewell and Chatsworth for relaxed days out. In the evenings, you can stroll to one of Great Longstone’s characterful pubs, getting to know the friendly locals and trying the delicious, homemade grub.
