High Ridge Barn is a gorgeous 17th Century building constructed using local pink stone and surrounded by the fields and woodland of the Peak District. This peaceful location, without another human in sight, is perfect for family or group trips getting away from it all. The recently renovated barn enjoys stunning views across the Swythamley Valley and sleeps up to eight in four double bedrooms. After a day hiking or cycling through the surrounding countryside, recover in the wood-fired sauna and relax in front of the Scandi log-burner in the living room.
The Scandi-inspired interior is spacious and welcoming with the white walls contrasting beautifully with the barn’s exposed wooden beams. You’ll find the kitchen and dining area in the double-height main barn which is nicely well equipped, you’ll even find an oyster shucker. This space opens out onto the cosy living area where two luxurious velvet sofas are gathered around a log burning stove. This really is the perfect spot to curl up with a book in the evening or enjoy a movie night in.
The four double bedrooms are equipped with the highest quality bedding, feather and goose down pillows and duvets and medium-firm pocket sprung mattresses to sink into after a busy day exploring. Two of the rooms have super-king sized beds which can be split into two large singles depending on your preference. There is an ensuite room with a king-sized bed and the last bedroom features another king-sized bed with the option of adding a cot with mattress and bedding.
There are three luxurious bathrooms, so there’ll be no waiting around for a hot, steamy shower after a long day in the Peaks. The family bathroom features a beautiful free-standing bathtub and a separate shower area. There’s also a shower room with Bluetooth speakers and the ensuite bathroom. After your shower, a fluffy bathrobe and slippers will be waiting for you.
High Ridge Barn has half an acre of private garden for guests to enjoy which is dog-secured. There’s a BBQ, secure storage for any bikes, a wood-fired sauna and even a dog grooming cabin so you don’t have to worry about any muddy paws in the house after walks.
There are plenty of walks that you can do right from the front door. For some stunning views from High Ridge itself, try The Roaches walk and see if you can spot the Barn from the top. Dane Valley Way is a beautiful river-side walk and you can even take a dip in Pannier’s Pool if you’re feeling brave. There are also lots of cycling routes around both on and off-road. Hire a bike from one of the local bike shops or bring your own and take advantage of the storage and washing facilities at the barn. For something a little different, try Go Ape or visit the Churnet Valley Railway and have a go at driving a train.

Never have I stayed in such a perfect property for humans and dogs alike. The house has a contemporary twist on a beautiful traditional building and as you can see from the photos, everything is to the highest standard from the bed linen to the bathrooms. The most important aspect for us, travelling with 3 dogs, was that the whole place was absolutely secure. One of our dogs is a small terrier but the boundary was secure even for her. So much thought has gone into making this a relaxing place to come, providing dog beds and dog bowls to cut down on what you need to bring. Making the house dog friendly by covering the sofas with throws and allowing the dogs on all hard floors which is most of the downstairs including one of the bedrooms. We came in the wet and wintery weather so the doggy parlour outside was great to get the dogs really clean after a muddy walk, before going in the house. This was a fabulous place and I would highly recommend to anyone, particularly with dogs.

What a wonderful place! Rosie and Rob were excellent hosts with a really thoughtful selection of welcome treats including fresh eggs, bread, fizz and much more! This is an extremely well equipped high end property with every creature comfort you could ever wish for! Our four legged friends were well catered for too although the house was so spotlessly clean it was hard to believe a single dog had stayed there before! We had a lovely walk to the local pub the Ship Inn which was also first class with great food and amazing service! But the absolute highlight was the wood fired sauna in the garden! Thanks so much Rosie and Rob for a perfect weekend in beautiful, luxurious surroundings - we will definitely return!

We just had a fabulous week here. I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Rosie and Rob are lovely and have thought of everything. The house is beautiful and everything supplied is of a very high standard. When you get there there’s bread and milk and cake and beers, and all the supermarkets deliver to the door. The place is secure for dogs and the views from every part of the house and garden are stunning. The local area is gorgeous and you can access some of the walks from the front door. Our kids had a day at Alton Towers and another at Go Ape. We also visited Chatsworth house and a local pub where the food and service were fab. My only reservation in recommending it is it will be booked up for when I want to go back!
