Highlights
  • With French linen sheets, traditional shutters and the deafening silence of a sleepy English village, you’ll sleep so deeply at this gorgeous 17th century cottage on Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck.
  • Its restored interiors were inspired by the Japanese ‘wabi’ aesthetic, appreciating imperfections and prioritising simplicity: the natural tones, plump feather-filled sofas, log burner, antique furniture and tactile ceramics are all simply beautiful.
  • Two double bedrooms make it ideal for 2 couples or families with older children, or, treat yourselves to an amazing holiday for two, and luxuriate in all that space.
  • The web of footpaths fan out from your doorstep, through the pretty Purbeck Hills, coastal paths and around the 12thC Corfe Castle, built by William the Conqueror back in the day.
  • Walk or drive to secret coves, turquoise water and wide beaches including Studland Bay, Kimmeridge, Worbarrow, Lulworth and Durdle Door.
  • Enjoy a meals at The Pig on the Beach sampling delights from their kitchen garden, or, feast against stunning waterside sunset views at Shell Bay, the best seafood restaurant around. Both just 10 minutes away.
  • Follow days out with leisurely drinks in the locals pubs in Kingston, Worth Matravers and several to walk to in the village.
  • Our top tip? Eat in the south facing courtyard garden whenever you can. This is also a Dark Skies area, and if you’ve never stargazed in one before, you’ll be blown away.
  • Or, gather in the heart of the home; a handmade kitchen and spacious dining room to enjoy morning coffees, plan the day ahead, whip up delicious feasts with local produce form the village deli, and relish sprawling dinners in this inviting space.

This charming cottage offers groups of up to four guests a warm, homely stay in the heart of Corfe Castle, a National Trust Village known for its picturesque charm and rich history. The cottage, on the peninsula of the Isle of Purbeck, was lovingly and sympathetically restored in 2022, paying homage to the past while embracing the imperfections that add character to the property.

The spaces within exude a sense of calm and peace, influenced by the Japanese concept of "wabi". Natural materials are enhanced and the interiors are adorned with a blend of antique furniture, original artwork and ceramics.

The heart of the home lies in the handmade kitchen and spacious dining room, creating a social atmosphere where you can gather for a morning coffee and plot the day ahead. This is also a great place to whip up delicious feasts and enjoy sprawling dinners that stretch into the night.

Guests will also love the living room that offers the perfect spot to relax on the comfy sofas or big, antigue armchairs that sit around the warming log burner. Grab a glass of wine and chat in front of the flames or sit with a good book and relax in peace after a day on the beach.

When bedtime beckons, the two bedrooms are adorned with French linen bedding and blackout shutters, guarantee you and your loved ones get a quiet night's sleep. Wake up in the peace of the cottage, with its 17th century charm and thick walls, to the soothing sounds of birds and village church bells.

The cottage also has a lovely south-facing courtyard garden, with Hay dining furniture, and some beautifully planted borders, providing you with a secluded space to enjoy an alfresco meal. You can also sit out here with a warming hot chocolate and gaze up at the stars, making the most of the dark skies.

When it comes to heading out you’re just a five-minute walk from the surrounding rolling hills offering great hiking opportunities that take you through scenic vistas that nature enthusiasts will love. Beach lovers will also be delighted to hear that the cottage has convenient access to a number of beaches, all of which are a 10/20-minute drive away. These include Studland Bay, Kimmeridge, Worbarrow, Lulworth Cove and the fantastic Durdle Door.

If you need to stock up on essentials, you’re a short walk from a village shop, deli and bakery. There are also three pubs within a short walk of the cottage, two of which the owners recommend - The Banks Arms and The Fox. To top it off, there’s also a boutique cafe just a short hop from your door called The Pink Goat.
