Rustic charm is available by the bucket load in this open plan hideaway hidden amongst centuries old buildings at Windout Farm. The Old Piggery is the perfect place for a romantic getaway with your better half. From outdoor bath tubs to suspended beds, this special little gem is just too good not to share.
Tucked away on the eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park, The Old Piggery forms part of a fully working farm. Steeped in over 900 years of history, the Piggery and its neighbouring buildings are full to the brim with old world charm. Offering amazing views over the surrounding Devonshire countryside, this rural idyll is the perfect setting for starry-eyed souls needing a quiet break from it all.
The accommodation is as beautiful as it is unique, and needs to be seen to be appreciated. When you enter the heavy wooden door, you step straight back in time. The concrete floors, covered with traditional textiles invite you to explore inside.
The open plan space has been thoughtfully converted and is unlike anything you will have stayed in before. To the left is a fully fitted, well-appointed kitchen area. With natural wood work surfaces and brushed aluminium splash backs, the bijou kitchenette offers everything a couple or small family could need for the duration of their stay.
Enjoy your meals at the shabby chic wooden table, seated on the mix and match rustic chairs. From lazy breakfasts to hearty evening meals, the dining area is perfectly positioned next to the kitchen.
When it comes to resting your head at The Old Piggery your choices really are quite special. With a mezzanine floor suspended from the ceiling, the kingsize bed is, quite literally, a cut above the rest. Designed to maximise light and space within the building, this architectural feature will see you climbing the wooden ladder to bed.
If you wish to keep your feet on the ground, the two hand-built sofas fold out into compact single beds, that can also be used for a couple of little ones, should you wish to bring them away with you. The living area itself, offers a cosy space in which to relax, complete with bespoke pallet seating with a rustic coffee table and drawers for storage.
Once you have taken in all the bucolic beauty of the internal space, hop on out to the patio to see the real piece de resistance of this exquisite little lodging. Sat on a private wooden deck, overlooking the apple orchard sit side-by-side claw-foot bathtubs allowing for the ultimate outdoor bathing experience. Hot tubs are fun, but twin bathtubs are better! This unique addition adds to the overall ambience of The Old Piggery, designed with complete relaxation in mind. The decked patio also offers a BBQ and seating area for a spot of outdoor dining should you fancy it.
During the day, you can sit back and watch the workings of the farm unfold. In the spring you can see the new-born lambs take their first steps, and in the summer your can enjoy the chorus of sheep bleating and geese chattering. Or you could choose to spend your evenings outside watching the stars from the coolest nightspot in Devon.
If you need to leave the farm for any reason, you can spend your day exploring the historical city of Exeter, the wilds of Dartmoor or maybe a day on the coast. But with everything you need wrapped up in a such a charming rustic package, we aren’t sure why you would want to go anywhere else.
On a outside decking area suspended over an apple orchard are two side-by-side roll top baths.
Located on a working organic farm on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. Beaches are within 40 mins and most activities would be within a short drive. The farm and surrounding areas provide great opportunity for walking and cycling.

Leave a reviewWhat a fantastic place! We stayed for 3 days and enjoyed every minute of it. Dartmoor is a beautiful place and we love it but being able to have a bath under the stars, with bottle of champagne, after long day walking is just priceless!

Just returned from three nights at the piggery. Had a fantastic time just watching the sheep and chilling the sun. Never has there been such silence that I could just hear the sheep eating the grass. This is the perfect location for the city of Exeter, the coast or country. Top marks
