Stay in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at The Milkshed, a converted farm building in Blackdown Hills in East Devon that mixes luxury with rural charm. What was a crumbling outhouse just a few short years ago has been transformed into a gorgeous holiday getaway for four, just outside of the market town of Honiton.
The old stone barn has been cleverly redesigned to incorporate everything required for the perfect escape to the countryside. There is under-floor heating throughout the property, for those cold winter nights. A large, open social area with vaulted ceilings and wooden beams comprises the living space - with wood-burning stove, two comfortable sofas, and a large smart TV - flowing into the fully equipped kitchen, complete with Nespresso coffee machine, fridge/freezer, oven, and dining room table seating up to 6. And if you're celebrating a special occasion, or just not in the mood to cook, one of the owners is also a Michelin level chef and can provide gourmet dinners, seasonal picnic hampers, and much more upon request.
The two bedrooms are versatile, one with a king-size bed and the other having the option of either being a twin room or a super-king. The master bedroom comes with its own en-suite, as well as a freestanding claw-footed bath in the bedroom itself. There is also a further shower room.
The Milkshed is eco-friendly, with all the hot water and heating provided by a state-of-the-art biomass log burning boiler.
Outside is a large and enclosed private garden. This includes a lawn area and outdoor seating for enjoying an evening drink or alfresco dining. And afterwards, why not relax in the hot tub for that added little bit of luxury.
Guests can roam the four-acre meadow beside the property, while there are several other walks and bike trails right on the doorstep. For those who prefer the beach then those at Branscombe, Sidmouth, Beer, Lyme Regis, and Exmouth are all nearby, while just a few miles away is Honiton and its array of shops and restaurants, as well as its twice weekly market.

It’s our second time at the Milkshed and won’t be the last , it’s our special place to escape , it’s situated perfectly to lovely villages and towns and beautiful coastlines , the owners are both lovely people , everything you need is there and the property has been renovated to a high standard ( I know I’m a builder ) . Yeh also do a catering service which we haven’t tried yet but we are on our next stay , we love the milkshed , and the area

We spent 7 nights at The Milkshed with our two kids and absolutely loved it. The house was spotless when we arrived, and the open-plan living area with the kitchen felt incredibly spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped—we had everything we needed for cooking. Both bedrooms were lovely, and the freestanding bathtub in the master bedroom was a great touch. The bathroom was also beautiful and spacious. Even though the property was located on a large estate, we had complete privacy throughout our stay. The garden, featuring a hot tub (which was checked daily) and a large hammock, was perfect for relaxing—we especially enjoyed unwinding in the hot tub during the evenings. The estate itself was expansive, and we took full advantage of the little walks through the wooded areas. There was also a grassed pitch where we could play ball games like football, volleyball, and even tennis. Katie and her husband were kind, helpful, and very responsive whenever we needed anything. All in all, the place was amazing, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in a rural setting while exploring all that Devon has to offer.
