Tucked away in the quiet, rugged countryside of Northumberland, The Hiddle Hut is a unique two-storey cabin offering plenty of luxuries and beautiful views. After a long walk through the surrounding countryside, snuggle up on the sofa in front of the wood-burning stove. After the sun has set, lie back on your king size bed and enjoy the stars through the bespoke star-gazing roof. Or head across the bridge that links the bedroom with its ensuite bathroom and soak up the view as you relax in the roll-top bathtub.
The cabin’s name comes from the Middle English, meaning ‘a hiding place’ or ‘sheltered spot’ and it certainly makes a cosy hideaway for couples. It’s set in its own private paddock with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Built with these surroundings in mind, the domed corrugated roof, reclaimed timber and dark painted exterior help it blend in with the setting.
Inside, is a cosy snug with a comfy leather sofa in front of a wood-burning stove and a smart TV. You’ll find the kitchen has an impressive array of equipment including a dishwasher, granite worktops and a gas oven and hob. Guests have everything they need to whip up all of their favourite meals and you can also pre-order breakfast hampers that will keep you going for two days. On sunny days, take your meals outside to the covered bar area on the deck. There’s a grill and firepit for you to use, and you can pick a few herbs from the trough to add a fresh hit of flavour to whatever you’ve got cooking.
Head up the gorgeous spiral staircase to the bedroom where you can sit up in bed with a coffee in the morning and enjoy the views through the windows. Head across the bridge to the bathroom and you’ll find a monsoon shower and a double-ended roll-top bath, again, perfectly positioned to enjoy the view.
There’s plenty to do in the local area and lots to see and do without even getting in the car. Explore some of the footpaths accessible directly from the cabin or amble along to the local village, Bardon Mill, which is just 20 minutes away. Here you can enjoy a pint at the pub or settle in for a cup of tea in the Tea Room. Haltwhistle is just three miles away from The Hiddle Hut and offers more in the way of cafes, restaurants and pubs or there’s the Michelin star restaurant Hjem in the village of Wall for special occasions.
