Come and enjoy the wondrous tranquillity of the Yorkshire countryside at the stunningly designed contemporary barn, The Grey Shed. This getaway for two is ideal for couples seeking to escape the city and become totally immersed in the serenity of nature. It is situated on the outskirts of the small picturesque village of Crayke, right on the edge of the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It offers a cosy yet spacious, modern yet rustic, self-catering experience that is sure to make visitors feel right at home. Guests will also be welcomed to their very own meadow, providing the utmost privacy and an al-fresco dining opportunity like no other.
The interior is a combination of rustic and Scandinavian-style simplicity. The Crittall style windows at the front of the property ensure that the Shed is well lit, creating an airy and energetic atmosphere. The spacious, open-plan, double height space stretches 30ft up to the huge skylights. On the ground floor is a lounge/kitchen living space. The lounge area has a smart tv and large loaf sofa, perfect for reclining in front of the log fire after a long day out on the hills. The DeVol kitchen is well equipped and comes with a dishwasher, coffee machine, Smeg fridge/freezer, and a vintage workbench island.
Completing the ground floor is a beautifully designed bathroom with large walk in shower, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries, perfect for a long relaxing shower.
The generous mezzanine bedroom comes with its own roll top bath and houses a super king-sized bed, perfectly positioned under the sky lights so you can do a bit of stargazing before nodding off.
Open the Crittall style doors and step out onto the enclosed sun terrace, complete with seating, fire pit and grill. Sit back and take in the wonderful views all around or wander across to the adjacent private meadow with additional seating, the perfect spot for an early evening sundowner.
The pretty little village of Crayke is about a mile away and well worth a look, Crayke castle is a fine example of a 15th century tower house. The local watering hole, The Durham Ox, has been serving ale for 300 years, it also a reputation for serving good food. The Black Swan in nearby Oldstead is just a 10-minute drive. With Michelin starred chef Tommy Banks at the helm, this restaurant was crowned 'The Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World' by TripAdvisor, in 2017.
If it's the great outdoors you're seeking then the Howardian Hills, situated right on your doorstep, offer the perfect arena. Venture a little further north and you will be in the expansive North York Moors National Park. Both areas are home to stunning countryside views, scenic walking and cycle routes, and several local historical sites. The historic city of York - known for its rich cultural heritage, medieval architecture, and world-famous cathedral - is less than a 30-minute drive.
