The detail

The far south west of Cornwall is a magical part of the British Isles with a wild Atlantic-battered coastline, beautiful beaches and ancient heritage. Known as Poldark country and famous as the mythical home of the Arthurian court, it makes an inspiring yet restful place to enjoy a relaxing break.

Situated five minutes from the romantic and quiet Prussia Cove, and sat amongst sub-tropical gardens bursting with gunnera, banana trees, palms and tree ferns, is the lovely Old Granary Cottage.

Scandinavian and mid-century are the inspirations for the interior decor of this stylish property. Guests will feel at home the moment they step through the traditional stone doorway into to the slate tiled hallway. The owners provide a traditional Cornish cream tea for all guests when they arrive. The cottage has reverse living with the sleeping areas on the ground floor and the living quarters on the first floor. So, head upstairs and recuperate from your travels with tea and scones in the beautifully-styled, open plan kitchen/living area.

Put on the kettle in the well-equipped country kitchen, which boasts a large dining table, room enough for ten people, making it great for special meals or sociable, leisurely brunches. Then settle onto the deep, cosy sofa and enjoy the peaceful location, the birdsong and the sound of the breeze blowing through the tropical garden.

Downstairs are three bedrooms which sleep up to six people in a master, with double bed and ensuite shower room, twin room and bunk room, ideal for children.
There is also a large family bathroom which features a cast iron bath. Lie back and pamper yourself with the complimentary natural body and hair products from Penzance-based Pure Nuff Stuff.

Outside there is an enchanting private garden, with outdoor furniture for relaxing on in the evening - sit back with a drink and catch the dying rays of the setting sun. There is also a barbecue and a gazebo, to keep you dry should a squall blow in from the Atlantic and bring with it a sprinkle of rainfall. And for cleaning off after long days in the surf, there is an outdoor shower, which is also useful for washing down sand-encrusted canines.

Beyond the lovely gardens there is plenty to see and do, the cottage is close to many of Cornwall's hidden treasures. Take a trip to Mousehole - which Dylan Thomas called 'the prettiest village in England', walk the stunning South Coast Path or catch a play at the Minack Theatre, carved out of the rocks above beautiful Porthcurno Beach.
