The Courtyard Wing is an opulent retreat that makes up a part of the exquisite Penpont Estate. This family run estate sits on the banks of the River Usk in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, offering you and your loved ones the perfect base from which to explore the incredible surrounding scenery.
A separate wing of a large house, the Courtyard Wing has its own entrance through an enclosed flagged courtyard. Sleeping a total of 16 guests, this beautifully restored Grade I listed building was originally built in the 1660’s and is now the ideal spot for your next break with friends and family.
When you enter, you’ll fall in love with the abundant old-world charm on display. This is a classy retreat, with rustic touches like exposed wooden beams and striking feature fireplaces. Make your way through the spacious coat and boot lobby and gather in the cosy sitting room upstairs to catch up with loved ones. This is the perfect place to get comfy on the big sofas and open a bottle of wine as you chat the afternoon away.
Another great place to congregate is the open-plan kitchen/dining room. Here, you’ll find all of the amenities you need to whip up delicious meals for your group, and a giant dining table that will comfortably seat everyone. This sets the scene for grand, social meals that can make your stay extra-special.
On warmer days, you’ll be able to dine alfresco in your peaceful garden. There’s a big dining table here for summer lunches or evening meals as the sun begins to set. There’s also a BBQ for you to use along with a selection of home-produced charcoal. After dinner, make your way to the south-facing terrace where you can enjoy an evening tipple as the stars come out above.
When night falls, there are six lovely bedrooms for you to choose from. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, one twin and one double room. On the top floor are a further four more bedrooms, two double rooms and two family rooms, both family rooms have one double and two single beds. There are additional small children's beds available in two of the double bedrooms and one of the family rooms - available on request.
During your stay you’re welcome to explore the sprawling grounds of the estate and make use of a variety of amazing shared facilities to enrich your stay. Visit the on-site Farm Shop for fresh organic produce, local meat, eggs, honey and homemade preserves (open from June-December). Cool off in deep swimming pools in the River Usk or enjoy fly-only, catch-and-release fishing across a private stretch of river.
You can also unwind in the hand-built wood-fired sauna beside the river, available for private hire or communal sessions. Enjoy summer evenings at the occasional Punch & Judy bar or gather around the communal fire bowl. Explore the magical Greenman Maze, spot wildlife and attend seasonal feasts and music events for a truly memorable countryside escape.
And, if you venture further afield, the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park has lots to see and do. Explore breathtaking landscapes perfect for walking, cycling and adventure. Visit dramatic waterfalls, wild moorland and soaring peaks like Pen y Fan. Discover hidden caves, ancient castles and charming market towns.
