Step into your very own award-winning, design-epic at this reimagined outbuilding in Monmouthshire’s ancient, country landscapes. Fusing its historic, agricultural footprint with a chic, minimalist style, The Chickenshed is a rural retreat which values the finer things in life. Read a book beside the fire or wander through the wild, bluebell meadows, journeying into the mysterious, Welsh woodlands, or discovering crumbling castle ruins. Sample delicious local produce and sip wine by twinkling starlight, gathering around the crackling firepit and curling up beneath handmade blankets.
Perched on a ledge above the flourishing Wye Valley, The Chickenshed has magnificent views across to the dramatic Black Mountains. Its exclusive architecture is in harmony with its captivating setting, and features a red cedar exterior topped with black corrugated sheeting. Peer through the striking glass wall to spy the uber-modern interiors, which blend a Scandinavian-feel with a local, farming pedigree. Expect high, vaulted ceilings bursting with natural light, finished with polished concrete, bleached wood and crisp, reflective whites.
The spacious living area is an architectural masterpiece offering uncluttered social spaces in a fluid, open layout. There’s the sleek, sophisticated kitchen and handcrafted dining table, along with a media snug and cosy lounge with log burner. Shades of green add depth to the natural connection and are accentuated by the massive glass windows looking out across the landscapes. Step off your heated, concrete floors onto the paved stone terrace, breathing in the fresh country air and listening to the lilting sounds of nature.
Four luxurious bedrooms are crafted for soothing nights in, and are dressed with sumptuous beds and plush, designer linens. Homely Welsh blankets are an artisan treat and are complimented by smart Nordic lights and understated scenic prints. The two king-size doubles even have contemporary en-suites, while the third double and calming twin share a large family bathroom.
Days can be spent in the tranquillity of your hideout, watching films, playing games and spending quality time with loved ones. Explore your two-acres of private open countryside, swinging in the hammock and gazing up at the tangled, treetop canopy.
Beyond your peaceful haven are some of South Wales’ best-kept treasures, including impressive abbeys, rugged peaks and meandering river valleys. Canoe down the River Wye and stop off at charming market towns, visiting nearby Monmouth or Chepstow’s celebrated castle grounds. The famous Offa’s Dyke Path is also a must for ardent walkers, while the enchanting Forest of Dean is perfect for bike-lovers. There are also endless tourist sights to keep the whole family entertained, including Puzzlewood forest, mining museums and Michelin-starred restaurants.
