The Details

Montgomery Manor is the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left. A Grade II listed Georgian manor with more than 400 years of stories woven into its beams and stone, this extraordinary house blends historic grandeur with the warm, lived-in comfort of a true family home. Named after the owners’ son, Monty, it’s a manor with genuine soul – a place where light dances across wood-panelled walls, oak floors ooze character and every room feels ready to welcome you in.

The moment you arrive, you'll begin to unwind. Enjoy long, leisurely meals in the magnificent dining room, where a medieval carving salvaged from Clearwell Castle presides over a table that seats 16. Candlelight glows against centuries-old panelling, the fire crackles in the grate and it’s easy to imagine every celebration and milestone that has played out here over the centuries.

Across two generous sitting rooms, the manor gives you space to gather or drift off for quiet moments. The evening lounge is cosy and relaxed with enormous sofas set beside an open log fire and French windows leading out to the hot tub terrace and enclosed lawn. Meanwhile, the morning lounge is lighter and more formal, complete with a baby grand piano, a glowing log burner and armchairs made for long chats and winter carols.

The farmhouse kitchen is the beating heart of the house. Warmed by a traditional Aga and framed by a huge stone hearth, it’s the place to enjoy hearty breakfasts or spend the evening sipping wine and enjoying late-night conversations. Upstairs, eight bedrooms each offer their own personality, from romantic four-posters to bright garden-view rooms. High-quality bedding and exceptionally comfortable mattresses make slow mornings almost inevitable.

Beyond the house, sprawling grounds invite you to wander, read, sip coffee in shady corners or enjoy aperitifs on sunlit lawns. And then there’s the legendary 10-seater wood-fired hot tub – a magical spot beneath the stars, surrounded by the quiet hush of the Forest of Dean. When the mood shifts from serene to celebratory, head down to the 400-year-old cellar bar and nightclub, complete with DJ decks, disco ball and lighting for unforgettable nights.

With the Forest of Dean on your doorstep, adventure awaits. Explore Sculpture Trails reclaimed by nature, watch peregrine falcons wheeling above Symonds Yat Rock, canoe the River Wye, or enjoy classic British pubs just minutes away. Montgomery Manor is a place to reconnect, to celebrate and to write your own chapter in a house that has already seen centuries of life.
