Musical and mesmerising, The Chapel has pulled out all the stops to give you a stunning West Country break like no other… This is one special renovation.
Please note: minimum stay for this property is: 2 nights low season & 3 nights high season
Tucked away in the Mendip Hills, somewhere between Cheddar Gorge and Bristol, the little village of Ubley is the setting for The Chapel. Renovated and restored, what was once a place of prayer has become an impressive holiday home for up to six, while retaining its organ, pulpit and other original features.
You really need to be there to appreciate just how special The Chapel is. It’s impressive how the place has kept so much of its character while being utterly liveable – the downstairs living space with the chapel organ as its centrepiece is spacious and majestic, and there’s even a baby grand piano if you do fancy hammering out a tune or two.
Charcoal-coloured units, a range and a large, central island give the kitchen a sophisticated air, with copper and brass fittings adding their own subtle accents. Those continue in the bathroom, with a decadent copper roll-top bath and rain shower, complemented by verdant metro tiles for a touch of Victoriana.
The two upstairs bedrooms look out over fields of buttercups, and are accessed via an eye-catching glass and steel gallery. Each is a double, and there’s room for a couple of fold-out beds on the gallery if your party extends beyond four. Add in plenty of other luxury touches: a 52” flat-screen TV and Sonos sound system, for example, and you have a stunning place for a grown-up getaway.
The Chapel’s location in the Mendips is handy for much of the best in the west. Not just Bristol, around 25 minutes’ drive, but Bath is a similar distance away. These two cities have enough to occupy you for days, whether you’re after culture and entertainment or history and architecture – each offers a mix of them all.
You’ll be a little over half an hour from Glastonbury, if you fancy doing the festival in a little more style, and those perennially popular caves of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole are only 20 minutes from Ubley. Even a day at the beach isn’t out of the question, with Weston-super-Mare around 15 miles down the road.
Easy to access from Bristol Airport, The Chapel is full of pleasant surprises… including the fact it’s just a short walk from the Ring O’Bells pub, where the likes of (the real) Kylie, Coldplay and Duran Duran have been known to play secret gigs. So, who knows who you might bump into?
