Close to the South Devon coast, you will find Swallows' Flight. This consists of a lovely holiday bar and an Airstream caravan, both are separately bookable.
The cosy barn conversion Swallows’ Flight has views across farmland and out to Start Point. A private rooftop hot tub makes a great place to enjoy those to the full, with many more special features inside making this a romantic and rural retreat.
Completely open plan, Swallows’ Flight sits in a cobbled courtyard just outside the village of Chillington, to the east of Kingsbridge. The accommodation is reached via a flight of granite steps, and is all on one level. The space includes a comfortable seating area with wood burner and a plentiful supply of logs. A small kitchen includes all the essentials, including an oven, microwave and sink, as well as a dining table for four.
Also included are a luxurious double bed and a bathroom with roll-top bath. If you are bringing children, there is room for up to two on the sofa-bed, and the option of a cot if required.
All is not lost if you have a larger group, though… because right next to the barn, you have a magnificent 1958 Airstream caravan, sleeping up to two adults and four children. With its own wood galley kitchen and seating area, this 31-foot vehicle packs a lot in, and has the use of a ground floor area with a shower, fridge and washing facilities.
The walled courtyard garden is where you will find the wood-fired hot tub surveying the surrounding countryside. There’s plenty of space for children to play on the lawns, and five acres of open fields on the working farm.
Many beautiful beaches can be found along this stretch of coast, just a couple of miles from Swallows’ Flight, and the coastal walks are just as rewarding. Around five minutes’ drive away, the Slapton Ley nature reserve is great for bird-watching, while rugged Dartmoor, further north, is big on atmosphere and wide-open space (and you might spot the occasional wild pony).
For dining, all the local towns have something special to offer, from ice cream and fish and chips to Michelin Star restaurants – head for Dartmouth, Kingsbridge or Salcombe. Inland, independently minded Totnes is the place to escape the chain stores and embrace the small, with numerous art and antique shops, boutiques and bookshops to potter around. You can reach all these picturesque towns in 20-30 minutes – another great reason to stay at Swallows’ Flight.
