Elegance meets rustic charm at St Clement's House, a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in the picturesque Cornish village of Mousehole and is just a short walk from the beautiful harbour.
Set over three storeys, the house is accessed down a private pathway with guests enjoying glimpses of the sea over the rooftops as they make their approach down the steps and across the cobbled courtyard to the front door. Inside this pretty property is bright and airy and has been refurbished to instil a modern twist but without losing the charm of the traditional Georgian features.
Upon entering, those staying come into a small hallway, with the lounge found to the left. In here are two comfy sofas and an armchair, television and DVD player and a large wood burner for those cosy nights in. There is also a double bedroom with king size bed on the ground floor, where guests can enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.
A short walk down the hallway, past the hand painted mirrors and original Cornish artwork, leads to the kitchen. This is well equipped with an an electric range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine, as well as under-floor heating.
Upstairs there's another double bedroom, with lovely sea views, and a twin bedroom perfect for the kids. There is also the family bathroom, which has under-floor heating and a large bath with shower, making it a lovely spot for a relaxing soak after a day on the beach.
A door in the kitchen leads outside to another courtyard, which acts as a great sunspot. This has the same aspect as the patio found at the front of the house and both are great for enjoying the wonderful South West weather whilst grilling up some grub on the barbecue. At the end of the courtyard is a secret private passageway that leads into a winding alleyway and down to a little beach by the harbour.
Mousehole is an idyllic fishing village with cobbled streets leading to pubs, cafes and art galleries. Afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room is recommended, as is a meal at the French bistro-style restaurant, 2 Fore Street, found right on the harbourside. The village is also the perfect base for visiting other nearby delights such as the art of St Ives, golden sands of Marazion, or Fish Festival at Newlyn.
