The Detail...
Situated along the Alta River in Norway is the world’s northernmost ice hotel. This impressive 2,000 m² igloo is made entirely from snow and ice each year and offers you a unique opportunity to sleep in the snow.
Inside you’ll marvel at the silence in this hotel made of snow and ice. Admire the handmade ice sculptures and take a night cap like no other in the ice bar.
Rooms have been expertly carved from the snow, with even your bed a block of the ice. Rest assured though you’ll sleep well at night, with reindeer leather sleeping pads and ultra-warm sleeping bags provided, so you can enjoy the contrast between cold and warm. With a constant temperature between -4 and -7 °C though you are encouraged to bring your own thermal underwear!
Side by side with the Igloo hotel is where you’ll find everything you need beyond your bed inside a non-ice building. There is space to store your luggage safely during your stay, as well as toilets, changing rooms, showers and the sauna. Phones and computers can also be charged here.
The warm restaurant serves an á la carte menu based on local food and traditions, and a table is reserved for you when staying the night. Afterwards you can enjoy drinks at the ice bar served, of course, in glasses made of ice.
Every year the hotel has a new unique theme from the Arctic part of the world, and artistic ice sculptures are on display throughout the hotel and bar.
Experience this beautiful part of Norway from this hotel. The location is ideal for spotting the northern lights, and maps and torches are provided if you want to go out to see the aurora. Book a snowmobile safari to explore your surroundings, go ice fishing, dog sledding or take the reindeer tour to meet the local Sami people and hear their stories.
