Located near North Berwick in East Lothian, this striking handcrafted Igluhut is a charming rural escape for two. The exterior has been clad in wood shingles using a traditional technique from Estonia which is centuries old. The beautiful curved shape of the cabin and the natural materials used in its construction help it fit in perfectly with its surroundings on a working farm.
Inside, you’ll find a cosy hideaway complete with kitchenette and ensuite shower room. Tucked away in a nook at one end, the luxurious king-sized bed enjoys a beautiful view over the surrounding fields. There’s also a TV in the bedroom area, making it the perfect spot for a movie night in. The materials have been sustainably sourced, using the highest quality wood and the cabin is insulated to keep you cosy whatever the weather outside.
The living area has been cleverly designed to make the most of the space. There are some comfy chairs where you can sit back and relax with a book and a fold out table to transform the space into a dining area. The kitchenette is equipped with the essentials including a sink, hob, and a fridge with a small freezer compartment, and the bathroom at the end of the cabin features a shower. There’s also a decking area to the front of the cabin with outdoor seating where you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening drink while taking in the views over the farm.
The Igluhut is located on a working farm from which you can walk to the beautiful private Seacliff Beach, home to the UK’s smallest harbour. The cabin is also within walking distance from Tantallon Castle, the ruin of a fourteenth century castle, set dramatically on the edge of the cliffs. There are plenty of routes along the coast for walking and cycling and the nearby Seacliff Stables means that you can even explore on horseback. Guests also have access to the John Muir Way, which is a coast-to-coast walking and cycling route that runs for 134 miles across central Scotland from Helensburgh to Dunbar. After a long walk along the cliffs or a morning spent at the private beach, refuel at DRIFT coffee shop which has a spectacular view of Bass Rock. This extraordinary island is home to a lighthouse and the world’s largest colony of northern gannets whose white feathers can often make it resemble an iceberg in peak season.
