In the heart of The Dell, close enough to hear the gentle trickle of the river, The Peaceful Cabin is a beautifully designed wooden tiny house with everything you need for an Edinburgh sojourn. Private and tranquil yet accessible and well-connected, The Peaceful Cabin is a dreamy getaway for a single traveller or couple, boasting a hot tub, wood burning stove, and sky-bed on the mezzanine.
The Peaceful Cabin is set on a quiet lane, with no through traffic, in its own small gardens. You’re right by the river, and close to the popular Robert Louis Stephenson trail, making this an ideal spot for cyclists, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Wildlife ranging from deer and otters to kingfishers roam nearby, so you’re likely to spot unusual and beautiful fauna as you sit outside, enjoying the Edinburgh light after a long day of exploring.
The house itself is timber framed and clad, built to a pleasing Scandinavian style, and offering all the amenities you’d expect from a self-catering cottage. The cabin is arranged on one level, with a ladder-accessed sleeping mezzanine overhead. As well as the wood burning stove, there is full heating, a well-equipped kitchen, and a plumbed in shower room and lavatory. You’ll largely have the outdoors space to yourself, so feel free to roam around, or relax close to home base on the timber decking. Guests looking to unplug from the perpetual bombardment of modern life will be pleased to find that there is no television, although the cabin does have WiFi.
Everything about this charming and quaint getaway in the green, unspoiled landscape of The Dell subtly suggests relaxation and true peace. Accessed via a gently curing flagstone path and built with substantial windows to create a light and airy atmosphere, The Peaceful Cabin is the sort of self-catering cottage which remains with you long after you’ve moved on. Be as active as you like, heading to the mountains, the coast, or the heart of one of Europe’s most exciting cities, or spend your days finding a rhythm with nature, taking in the fresh air and strolling along the gently meandering river.
Edinburgh is a globally renowned city, famed for its festivals, culture, architecture and history. Regardless of season, it is brimming with fine dining restaurants, brilliant art and theatre, a vibrant, inclusive culture and something for everybody to dip into, regardless of age, interests or budget. Although The Peaceful Cabin is characterised by quiet, you’re just fifteen minutes from Edinburgh Airport, and can reach the city’s attractions easily. Without leaving the immediate neighbourhood, check out Java Moment for great coffee and cheese scones, the brilliant Olive and Post deli, and the award winning Dantes, for Italian food. Spylaw Tavern, a gorgeous cocktail bar and kitchen, is just a few minutes’ walk away, and the lovely Colinton Inn is also nearby.

Leave a reviewThe aptly named Peaceful Cabin is just that. We enjoyed a superbly relaxing weekend there. It is ideally placed for exploring the city or the countryside and coming back to the delightful hot tub was wonderful. Overall a marvellous weekend!

I booked the Peaceful Cabin back in October last year to celebrate my 60th birthday and I was not disappointed, it is exactly what it says it is. It is in a beautiful little corner of Colinton, surrounded by trees and wildlife, with wonderful walks, artwork along the Colinton tunnel and the eateries and pubs (especially The Colinton Inn, Amy is so welcoming) what more could you ask for. Anne-Marie you are a warm welcoming host and Graham and I can't thank you enough for making my special birthday even more special....The very best of wishes to you and many thanks again...Debbie and Graham...xx

From our initial booking over a year ago, Anne-Marie has always been prompt, polite and accommodating after multiple cancellations due to covid lockdowns. We finally got to go this year and it was well worth the wait. From the beautiful location with very good transport links into Edinburgh centre, to the finer touches left by the hosts themselves and the accommodation overall being outstanding. This quaint cabin ticked all the boxes and made the perfect New Years get away. The hosts made sure the hot tub was serviced and ready for use on our arrival. The cabin was tucked away giving you your own private space and time to relax. The hosts left recommendations for things to do and restaurants/ pubs to visit which we found very helpful. Overall a 10/10 experience which we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. Thank you :)

Simply wonderful. The cabin is secluded and chilled for a lovely three nights away. The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed from dressing gowns, to basic essentials and even Prosecco & chocolates for our arrival! The hot tub was an excellent addition too. Great location - only a 15 minute Uber to the city centre. Quick responses before and throughout our trip with the host. We will definitely be returning - thank you so much!

Just lovely! We stayed here for a couple of days and it was exactly what we needed. Really peaceful, can hear the river, hot tub is great and huge, kitchen is well stocked too. They've really done everything to make sure your stay is as relaxing as possible. There are a couple of restaurants in walking distance and we also easily got a bus to Edinburgh and an Uber back for around £10.

Absolutely perfect. Does exactly what it says on the tin. The cabin has everything you need for a 'Getaway from it all' break but is close to restaurants and pubs if you choose to leave. Loved listening to the river, hot tub was fantastic and nice walks in the doorstep. The graffiti tunnel is a definite must if you choose to go. Will definitely return.
