The detail

Dating back to 1597 and sitting amidst sprawling gardens just a five-minute walk from Porthcothan Bay, is Porthcothan Mill Cottage. This beautiful 16th century former water mill has been lovingly decorated by the owners, exhibiting a seamless blend of period fixtures and modern comforts, along with vintage and contemporary furniture. With stunning gardens, a cosy atmosphere and beautifully decorated rooms, this is the perfect Cornish getaway. And with its envious location, you couldn't be better placed to explore one of the UK's most scenic areas. Sleeping a max of six guests, this is the ideal family retreat.

The ground floor is semi open planned, containing the sitting room, kitchen, and dining area. The cosy living room has plenty of comfortable seating and contains a 32" TV, Bluetooth speakers, plenty of board games, and a wood burning stove. So you can stay toasty and warm whilst keeping you and your loved ones entertained with a movie, some music or a good game. A sliding barn door separates the living from the kitchen/diner. The quirky metallic kitchen features reclaimed Iroko worktops, an island, a Smeg fridge/freezer, and all mod cons needed for cooking a delicious meal. The dining area has a solid oak table which can sit up to eight guests making dinner times a breeze.

Head back to the living room and ascend the staircase to find the three bedrooms that sit underneath an original vaulted ceiling. Two of the rooms have double beds, while the third has two twins. The main bathroom has a bath, shower, WC, and basin. There is also an additional WC attached to the utility room for added convenience. Outside, the centuries old spacious garden has outdoor furniture, sun loungers, and an island surrounded by the mill's original leat. This is a marvellous, rustic space where guests can lounge in the sunshine or dine al fresco enjoying drinks long into the evening in summer. The valley that surrounds the garden is also teeming with local wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled.

North Cornwall has long been a popular tourist location for both domestic and international visitors. You will be a five-minute walk from Porthcothan Bay, while the area is home to numerous other beaches. There are lots of charming pubs and restaurants in the surrounding villages such as St Merryn, St Mawgan, Mawgan Porth, Padstow and Watergate Bay. Activities on offer in the region include horse riding, surfing lessons, coasteering, sailing, kayaking, and sea safaris. For a more urban experience, the town of Newquay is less than a 30-minute drive to the south.
