In Vellandreath, a lovely and hidden corner of West Penwith in Far West Cornwall, overlooking the wide sweep of Whitesands Bay is where you’ll find Sheldrake cottage.
Converted with flair and imagination this quiet and magical setting is only accessible on foot down the sandy beach path from Sunny Corner Lane, Sennen.
Here you’ll find a detached, single-storey, former fisherman’s Cornish Cottage and boathouse that enjoys magnificent panoramic sea views and has been attractively furnished throughout.
Inside you’ll find a spacious, very comfortably furnished living room with leather sofas, ‘Victorian’ wood-burning stove, slate-style floor with rug, picture windows and large, glazed door to terrace with glorious views over the bay to Sennen Cove and distant glimpses of the Isles of Scilly providing an “outside – inside” living experience.
The separate fully equipped traditional farmhouse kitchen/dining room overlooks the patio and beach, and comes with slate worktops, antique dresser, slate floor and back door leading to garden.
There’s a cloakroom with toilet. There are also two double bedrooms with superb views, each with an en-suite shower room and toilet; one with a Victorian brass double bed and one with an ornate antique double bed.
There are two further prettily decorated cosy bedrooms, each with single bed and built-in bed and a family bathroom with a shower attachment and toilet.
For children there is a small and very compact bedroom with 3 ft wide bunk bed you can also use.
There’s also a south-facing garden, with three separate terraces, making this a positive sun trap, with Echium and Cornish palms enhancing the tropical feel to this wonderful coastal location.
This lovely holiday cottage is found in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a haven for botanists, wildlife enthusiasts, beachcombers, climbers, ramblers and watermen alike, so there is plenty of nature to explore and delight in.
Sheldrake also has its own path leading to the shore of Whitesands Bay, Sennen – which lies just 150 metres away, so you may simply want to spend your days on the beach or swimming in the sea. Or take a walk along the beach to the local inn and attractive little fishing harbour of Sennen Cove.
St Ives and Penzance are also accessible with a car.
