What was once a coastal tourist bus on the Isle of White has now been lovingly converted into a beautiful glamping retreat tucked away in the charming Dorset countryside. When you arrive, you’ll be delighted by the peaceful greenery that surrounds you, and once you step inside you’ll find you’re staying in a truly unique getaway that’s ideal for big groups.
The bus itself has had most of its original seats removed and boasts four beds on the lower deck. These are the comfy and cosy sleeping quarters, where you and your loved ones can enjoy a peaceful night’s slumber.
Up on the top deck you’ll find an undercover seating area and a kitchen that is nicely equipped with all the amenities you’ll need to whip up delicious meals. Then, step out onto your raised deck and dine in the summer sunshine, whilst taking in your surroundings. Out on the deck is an oak dining table that sets the scene for epic group meals and offers far-reaching views across the beautiful Dorset countryside.
The bus itself sleeps four guests, whilst there’s also space for an additional four in the nearby bunkhouse. The bunkhouse is cosy and comfy and features two single bunks and a double bed, ideal for families with children. Then, to top it all off, there’s space for an additional four guests in the bell tent, which has a comfy double bed and a pair of singles. This takes the total number of guests to 12, making it a superb retreat for groups who want to get back to nature. There's also hot running water and an amazing wood-fired bathtub, which offers you the chance to indulge in a relaxing soak after a day exploring the local walking routes.
Spend your days unwinding outside on the grass or relaxing under the small pergola that makes a great place to eat or play cards. You also have your own campfire outside, so you can toast marshmallows under the flames and stay cosy and warm as the stars come out above. The campfire also has a cooking grill, which means you can grill up some delicious local produce in style. The site is also nicely child-friendly, and up to two dogs are also welcome to join you.
You’re nicely placed to visit Sherborne station, which has excellent train links and is just a 10-minute taxi ride from Stock Gaylard. For groceries, the owners recommend Dike & Son in Stalbridge - a family-run supermarket offering local produce, popular brands and delivery for your arrival.
When it comes to filling your days, you can venture out and explore the stunning Dorset countryside, which offers rolling hills, charming villages and rich history. From the Jurassic Coast’s fossil-strewn beaches to picturesque spots like Lyme Regis and Corfe Castle, Dorset blends natural beauty with cultural heritage. Enjoy scenic walks, fresh produce and timeless countryside in this idyllic slice of southern England.
