The Details

Tucked away beside open wetlands and scenic walking trails, this unique group retreat carries with it a fascinating past. Once an isolation hospital, and later a rope mill and dairy, the building has been lovingly converted into a spacious, characterful home close to the market town of Marsham.

The property has been through a major renovation, carefully balancing modern comfort with original quirks and features whilst offering an inviting sense of fun.

The heart of the home is the spacious kitchen, where a vintage range cooker adds to the atmosphere. Keen cooks will find everything they need here, including a generous oven, plenty of fridge and freezer space, a wine fridge, KitchenAid mixer, bread maker and much more. There’s also an ornate dining table here, that sets the scene for grand social dinners. This fab room also opens out onto the garden through big bifold doors, meaning you can let the fresh air in on sunny days.

You’ll also adore the cosy lounge, with its super-comfy sofas sitting around a wonderful wood-burner ensuring you stay toasty and warm as you catch up with loved ones over a drink. There’s also a bookshelf in the corner, topped up with books for you to choose from, should you wish to dip into a good novel during your stay.

The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated, each with its own unique style that add to the charming allure of the home. There are five in total that offer flexibility for groups. Four are ensuite, giving privacy and comfort, while the fifth has a playful bohemian vibe. Whether you’re after a king size bed and a luxurious bathroom, a cosy double for two or the adaptable “Harry Potter” room that can be set up in multiple ways, there’s a space for everyone. Extra z-beds and travel cots are available for those coming with little ones.

Outdoors, the house sits within a third of an acre. At the front, you’ll find a welcoming spot with seating and a built-in BQQ – offering the perfect place for a summer feast. To the back, another garden space stretches out, overlooked by the kitchen and lounge, inviting you to linger over morning coffee as you plan the day ahead or share some evening drinks with your nearest and dearest. There’s a sprawling lawn that’s ideal for games in the sun, or popping a blanket down for a picnic or afternoon snooze.

Step beyond the garden, and you’re immediately in the countryside. A public footpath takes you across the fields into Masham in just 10 to 15 minutes, just don’t forget the torch for the walk home after dark! For those who prefer the easy option, it’s only a few minutes in the car to Masham.

Lovers of the great outdoors will be delighted to know that there is an abundance of incredible scenery all around you. You’re close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Nidderdale National Landscape, both of which offer abundant walking and cycling routes for you to enjoy.
