Craving a getaway that’s a little more soul-nourishing than the usual group trip? Oakhill Ponds is a hidden 25-acre haven on the edge of a Somerset village, available for exclusive hire - ideal for slow celebrations, milestone birthdays or just reconnecting with your favourite people in the wild.
Think wild swimming by day, sauna sessions under the trees and fireside chats that stretch long into the night. This stay consists of four beautiful bell tents and two marvellous shepherd’s huts, with space for four additional guests in the stunning Walled Garden.
Choose from four stunning Lotus Belle tents, pitched in a wildflower meadow or tucked into a peaceful willow field, and sink into the slower rhythm of life outdoors. Each tent is kitted out with comfy beds, wool throws and luxury mattress toppers, with private hot showers, compost loos and even WiFi to keep you connected (if you want to be!).
Cook up something delicious in your own gazebo kitchen-diner, toast marshmallows over the wood-burning stove, then kick back in your Fatboy hammock as the stars come out. And when the sun’s high, dive into the crystal-clear, spring-fed ponds or unwind with a session in the horse-box sauna at the off-grid spa.
Just a short stroll from a fab local pub and surrounded by peaceful woodland and wildlife, this is proper countryside glamping - with all the comforts that count.
And if bell tents aren't your vibe, Oakhill Ponds also plays host to two beautiful, handcrafted shepherd’s huts - Chiyo-ni and Alice. Think design-led cabins with wood-fired hot tubs, tranquil gardens and interiors inspired by Japanese minimalism and classic rural charm. With wild swimming, nature walks, hidden grottos, and even a quirky horse-lorry reading room, this is a nice cool space where you can escape the heat and switch off, soaking up the scenery and rediscovering the joy of doing absolutely nothing.
At the heart of everything is a newly built, covered kitchen and dining space, featuring a stretch tent roof, café-style bistro seating and a generous Kamado BBQ alongside a Kadai fire pit. It’s the perfect spot for lingering over shared meals, enjoying morning coffee in the soft light or gathering around the fire as evening sets in.
If you need space for additional guests, then tucked away in a secluded walled garden is a spacious, hand-crafted yurt that offers a unique blend of comfort, style and tranquility. Designed by Angela Morley, the garden is a peaceful haven with winding paths, lush borders and hidden corners for quiet reflection.
At its centre, the 21-foot yurt features a king size bed, dining area, cosy seating and a wood-burning stove. Outside, enjoy a private terrace with a wood-fired hot tub and fire pit, along with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, monsoon shower and two flushing loos. A separate garden room with a small double bed adds extra space to sleep or unwind.
During your stay you can also make use of the superb Elemental Spa. Tucked among willow trees and hazel hurdles, the spa is a peaceful, open-air retreat where warmth, water and wide skies invite you to slow down and reconnect. Enjoy two wood-fired saunas - one in a converted horse box, the other near an 18th-century grotto - plus a cold plunge tank, open-air copper shower and direct access to spring-fed swimming ponds. Between sauna rounds, relax in the Lotus Belle tent with essential oils and soft rugs, or stretch out on loungers with a blanket as deer cross the marshland. You can also try your hand at some yoga or paddle board pilates, which can really enhance your stay.
If you wish to venture out and explore the area, there’s lots to see and do nearby. Wander the historic streets of Wells, soak in the Roman baths of Bath or discover Frome’s indie shops and markets. Head to Glastonbury for myth and magic, hike the dramatic Cheddar Gorge or roam the wild beauty of the Mendip Hills. Whether you’re chasing culture, countryside or a great local pub, adventure is always just around the corner.
