An award-winning country mansion on the edge of the Lake District, where beautiful rooms look out over the magical Eden Valley….
Melmerby Hall is a beautiful Grade II-listed country mansion that has its own 20 acre private grounds in Cumbria’s flourishing Eden Valley. With antique pieces and grand features, it has a timeless elegance fused with sumptuous home comforts. Relax in the billiards room or in the oak-panelled library, before heading out to discover the lush woodland expanses. With views of the Pennines and on towards the Lake District, there is no better place to soak up this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The original house dates back as far as the 14th century and has an interesting history that is steeped in myths and legends. Metre thick walls are part of its ancient defences, while an old castle folly keeps watch at the perimeter. Exquisite refurbishments have been carried out over time and include the Georgian Wing and the new dining conservatory.
The award-winning accommodation consists of three stunning floors which have each been elegantly furnished with an impeccable attention to detail. A stately drawing room is located at the front of the house with a large open fire and a classic piano. The formal library is just across the hallway and leads to the medieval dining room with its banqueting table. More relaxed accommodation is nestled at the back of the house, including a comfortable family room and a modern breakfasting kitchen.
Upstairs, there are nine charming twin/double bedrooms which each have their own boutique finish. Deluxe en-suites can be found in eight of the rooms, along with a further private bathroom on the first floor landing. The Master and Regency bedrooms are linked to second twin/double rooms and have magnificent wooden beds and traditional furnishings. The Chinese and French Empire rooms are also of equal splendour along with the Victorian, Edwardian and Nursery Rooms which are up off the second floor landing.
Outside, the house has truly spectacular gardens which offer captivating views across the ever-changing landscape. Part of the prestigious Rowley Estate, they have impressive landscaped areas and wild woodland regions. Picnic by the babbling stream or take a walk through the enchanting glades, before hiking up the Pennines or heading out to the Lake District fells. The quaint village of Melmerby can also be found close-by, along with the market town of Penrith and the serene Ullswater Lake.
