Hidden away on a peaceful smallholding between the fells and the sea, Laverock How offers a truly special Cumbrian escape. This charming shepherd’s hut combines rustic simplicity with comfort and soul - the perfect place to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with nature. Wake to the sound of birdsong, sip your morning coffee as mist rolls across the hills and as evening falls, slip into the steaming wood-fired hot tub while watching the sunset behind the distant Isle of Man.
Inside, the hut is beautifully crafted, offering everything you need for a cosy retreat. There’s a king size bed dressed in soft linens, a compact but well-equipped kitchenette with a hob, toaster and microwave, plus an ensuite shower room with fluffy towels and toiletries included. A welcome pack awaits with fresh eggs from the rescue hens, local bread, coffee and a few thoughtful extras to make you feel right at home. Games, maps and walking guides are also provided to help plan your Cumbrian adventures.
Outside, your private terrace opens out to sweeping panoramic views that stretch across the fells to the sea. You might share the view with a few curious alpacas, friendly donkeys or grazing sheep - all part of the working smallholding that surrounds you. Guests can bring along dogs at no extra charge, and even horses are welcome, with stabling and paddocks available. There’s a secure area for your four-legged friend to run, as well as bridle paths leading straight from your door into the open countryside.
The surrounding area is a paradise for outdoor lovers. Lace up your boots and explore the Ennerdale fells, or head to nearby Wastwater, Scafell Pike and Great Gable for iconic Lake District hikes. The beaches of St Bees, Seascale and Silecroft are just a short drive away, ideal for dog walks or even a canter along the sand. After a day exploring, enjoy hearty food at a nearby pub or book ahead for an Italian feast at the much-loved Wild Olive in Gosforth.
