This wonderful Georgian house has been beautifully refurbished retaining all of its historic elegance but with lovely modern amenities. It would be an ideal holiday destination for a large family, a group of friends or a reunion. They even accept hen do's and small weddings! The pretty white house stands in the grounds of a beautiful garden surrounded by disused stone barns and is a little pocket of heaven.
Enter through the columned front door to a wide, airy hallway with flagstone flooring and living rooms to either side. Both rooms are beautifully decorated with hardwood floors, in muted shades with eclectic elegant furniture, lovely soft furnishings and little additions of homely ornamentation. The rooms manage to be both traditional with a whiff of grandeur but also incredibly cosy and welcoming.
There's a sunny playroom for children with a daybed and lots of games and toys. There's a piano for anyone with musical ability and the room also has table football (not just for the kids!). It's a great room for the smaller people to have to themselves whilst the bigger people curl up in one of the living rooms (maybe the one with the wood burner if it's a chilly day) with a good book.
The kitchen is particularly fabulous and newly refurbished. Fully equipped with everything you could need, it's spacious and airy with a freestanding island with Quooker taps and lots of original features. There's a red Aga which pops against the pale teal walls and gives the space a very modern vibe and there's a huge dining table where everyone can gather for social meals that stretch into the night. There's also a utility room with a washing machine and tumbler so no need to pack the kitchen sink.
Upstairs you'll find all five bedrooms, each one decorated in a completely unique style giving it a high-end country house feel. There's one king size bedroom with a very large ensuite, and a super-king that can be converted into twins if needed. There's also a twin room and another super-king, also with an ensuite, Finally, there's another bedroom with one single bed and bunk beds which has a family bathroom to share with a shower over the tub. Every room has something that makes it charming and special, be it the beautiful bed linens, the Georgian style bed or the soft furnishings. It's impossible to choose a favourite.
The garden is the piece de resistance with its large sprawling lawns, pretty views and rather fabulous wood fired hot tub! Grab a glass of fizz and sink into the warm bubbles whilst someone else makes dinner. As the sun sets you can light up the fire pit. If you wish to hit the beach, the property is minutes from the coastal path. There's a private cove here, called 'Blue Lagoon', which is only accessible to guests. It's a bit of a walk but is well worth it for the wonderful clear water and gorgeous surroundings. Take a swimsuit and a picnic and make a day of it.
South Devon is overrun with beautiful beaches but the nearest to the cottage is Wadham, which is peaceful and good for swimming and rock-pooling at low tide.
Mothecombe Beach is about an hour's walk and is privately owned but open to the public. It is spectacular, and the hosts highly recommend a walk at low tide across the 150 acres of sand. You can also wade across the River Erme to the neighbouring Wonwell Beach though dogs aren't allowed here in the summer.
Devon is also a foodie heaven and the fantastic Schoolhouse Restaurant is a must, only three miles form the cottage. And if you fancy a little bit of extra luxury do enquire about their hamper service. Perfect for a day at the beach before returning to your country home and relaxing in the hot tub under the stars.
