Built on top of the original mill house at Manor Farm, the folly is an artistically designed haven - perfect for those needing some serious relaxation. Sitting next to a babbling brook and overlooking a quintessential English garden, it’s a hidden architectural gem. With comfortable interiors that have been thoughtfully curated, it’s an obvious labour of love. And with a striking wood-burning stove and dazzling views out of every window, this really is a wonderful place to stay any time of year.
The onsite facilities are as unique as the apartment. With an exotic conservatory-housed swimming pool and sauna, a stone-clad games room and a perfectly-manicured grass tennis court. And as the Folly only shares these facilities with five other apartments, you’re guaranteed that it will always feel as relaxed as the owners have meticulously intended.
The Folly is an upside down house so you get the full advantage of the wonderful views that surround this property - from the babbling brook, to the garden and the surrounding Devonshire countryside. The living area is bright and airy with a double-height ceiling adorned with sailing boats and a library of books. It’s a beautifully eclectic room anchored in rich, dark blue hues that perfectly complement the exquisite wood burning stove. Sink down in the comfortable sofa or large daybed and enjoy the gorgeous views out over the garden.
The small kitchen has all the mod cons that you’d expect - but where it really delivers is with the unexpected feeling of space. There are stunning windows and high ceilings (complete with a chandelier, of course). A breakfast bar cleverly hugs the staircase and is a lovely spot for your morning cup of tea, with views out of three windows. Or you can choose to head out onto the balcony that, joyfully, sits right above the stream.
The bedroom downstairs has a wonderful, garden-inspired interior, with botanical linens, unique artwork and a delicately hand-painted screen. Patio doors lead out onto a terrace that sits right over the babbling brook - grab a book and curl up on the inspired boat seating area.
The ensuite is split over two rooms - the first houses a large bath that sits perfectly next to the whitewashed walls and antique pine units. The second room is a tiled characterful shower room.
Head outside to enjoy the charming gardens with its stone statues, croquet lawn and relaxed seating areas. The tennis court sits beautifully within the old walled-garden - a delightfully English scene (just add strawberries and cream).
The indoor games-room is well-equipped with a pool table, table football and even a piano for the more musical amongst us. The pool and sauna reside in the exotic surrounds of the conservatory. With lush plants, a large hand-painted mural, and a relaxed seating area - it’s a true sanctuary.
The local area is wonderful - with delightful Dittisham and Dartmouth both just down the road. There are also numerous walks from the door that can be as easy or as arduous as you please - from riversides strolls to hikes along the Dart Valley Trail. The area also boasts a plethora of fabulous places to eat, the hosts will kindly point you in the right direction.
