Lying in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Site of Special Scientific Interest and Dark Sky Reserve, Diddlylake Shepherd’s hut truly is a one-of-a-kind retreat. The two, beautifully handcrafted huts are hidden away in a secluded spot on Bodmin Moor, beside the ruins of an old stone house and surrounded by rolling moorland. They offer the chance for couples or solo travellers to escape civilisation, switch off and reconnect with nature. As well as being perfectly located to discover this spectacular area of countryside, they also offer excellent access to the Cornish coast.
As mentioned before, the stay consists of two huts, each sustainably crafted from recycled and locally sourced timber. One hut is your bedroom, which features a comfy double bed, storage space and a desk. Extra thick blankets and a woodburning stove keep guests warm and cosy throughout the year. The other hut is the kitchen. Here you’ll find gas hobs and all the pots, pans and utensils needed to cook up a feast. This hut also has a dining table where you can share meals and plan your adventures. There is a fire pit and BBQ just outside if you fancy some alfresco cooking under the starry sky. The spring-fed, hot shower and compost WC are in a separate hut down by the house.
The owner’s home is a few hundred meters away but doesn’t intrude so you’ll have total privacy. He is on hand however if you need any assistance, and guests are welcome to help him feed the lambs in season.
Guests can make use of the whole field by the huts. The area boasts a rich diversity of wildlife and is excellent for birdwatching, with buzzards, swallows and skylarks frequently spotted. Outdoor enthusiasts will relish the chance to ramble the nearby hills and explore the many hiking trails on the moor, just make sure to bring suitable footwear!
The accommodation is a short drive from the picturesque village of St Neot and eight miles away from the charming town of Liskeard, famous for its weekly market. Cornwall’s glorious coastline is also within easy reach, with a wonderful selection of sandy beaches loved by surfers, swimmers and walkers alike. Other nearby attractions include Carnglaze Caverns, Silbyback Lake, and Caradon Heritage Mining trail to name a few.
