Calf’s House is nestled away in a peaceful 15-acre farm, a great choice for families or couples looking to escape and reconnect with nature. Less than a mile from Cornwall’s stunning north coast, the property offers excellent access to Polzeath Beach, where you can enjoy a swim, try out a range of water activities or sit back and soak up one of the famous Cornish sunsets. The self-catering property is the perfect place to recharge after a day of adventuring and guests also have access to a hot tub and a heated outdoor pool in the summer months.
A converted 18th century calves’ barn, the house has been delightfully renovated with modern features but still maintains its rural charm, such as its high vaulted ceiling and timber beams. The homely interior has been stylishly decorated and features a spacious, open plan layout that is light and airy in the summer and can be warmed by a log burner in the cooler months. The kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you need to cook up a lovely meal, whilst the living room has a TV and plenty of seating for everyone to relax.
The property sleeps four in two cosy bedrooms, one master bedroom with double or twin beds and another that can be set up as a super-king or as twins. The owners are happy to allow for two additional guests and can set up camp beds for them if needed. There is also a travel cot available by prior arrangement. The family bathroom has a shower and a bath and the hosts have thoughtfully provided beach towels, bathrobes and local toiletries for use during your stay. Step outside the house and you’ll find the south facing patio area which boasts far reaching country views – the perfect place for sharing an evening drink or firing up the barbecue and dining al fresco.
Mesmear is a working farm home to alpacas, pigs and chickens. Guests are welcome to feed the animals and are encouraged to collect fresh eggs from the coop ready for breakfast. There are a range of other activities available on the farm, including a zip wire tucked away in the orchard and a natural playground, both ideal for keeping restless kids occupied.
The farm is a mile from Polzeath Beach, hugely popular for its extensive stretch of sand, slow-breaking surfing waves, rockpools and many coastal paths to explore. The beach offers a variety of activities (many of which can be booked through your hosts) including surfing, paddleboarding and dolphin-spotting boat trips. There are also several Cornish towns just a short drive from the farm which make a great day out. Why not stroll down the narrow winding streets of Port Isaac or visit the bustling harbour town of Padstow, famed for its restaurants showcasing Cornish produce?
