Glamping in a handbuilt herdsman’s hut hidden away on a working farm, perfect for a romantic getaway to the Kentish countryside.
Please note that the minimum stay for this property is 2 nights
Nestled in 100 acres of unspoilt working cattle farmland, you’ll find the beautiful handbuilt Herdsman’s Hut. This one-of-a-kind hut has been carefully and lovingly constructed without the use of any power tools. The frame is made up of oak beams which have been left exposed and the slate tiles for the roof came from a Victorian property in Canterbury. The result is a delightfully proportioned hut located in one of the farm’s most secluded areas. The peaceful surroundings, close to the farm’s duck pond and the uninterrupted panoramic views make this a wonderful destination for a quiet romantic couple’s escape.
Inside the hut, you’ll find a luxurious double bed waiting for you with crisp cotton linen and a comfy mattress. Due to the compact dimensions, every inch of space has been cleverly utilised. You’ll find some storage space under the bed and a table for two pulls out from the bedframe. The little kitchenette is equipped to help you rustle up some simple meals for cosy evenings in. There’s a mini fridge for storing your supplies, an electric hob and a sink. Alternatively, take the cooking outside and fire up the barbecue or the fire pit on the decking. Settle in for the evening with a glass of wine on the decking, a delicious meal cooking away on the barbeque and watch the sun go down over the farm.
You don’t need to worry about leaving any home comforts behind as The Herdman’s Hut has its own electricity supply powering the kitchen and the ensuite shower room. You’ll have hot running water and a powerful electric shower and you’ll be cosy and warm in the evenings thanks to the wood-burning stove.
For breakfast, you can tuck into a bowl of Broxhall Farm Granola, made in the farmhouse kitchen, before setting off on the day’s activities. There are a whole array of places to eat in the local area and in nearby Canterbury. Or, simply stroll across the fields to The Duck, the fantastic local pub which is known for its delicious food.
There’s plenty to do in the local area, from country walks to exploring the nearby towns and cities. There are footpaths around the farm itself which lead out into Kent’s beautiful countryside. There are also several cycle routes if you fancy bringing your bike along. The beautiful city of Canterbury is under 10 minutes away with one of the country’s oldest cathedrals to visit and lots of independent shops and restaurants. If you prefer a day at the seaside, a trip to Whitstable is a must, with delicious seafood and beach huts lining the seafront.

Had such a relaxing time here with my husband. 3 nights of complete relaxation in the most stunning peaceful surroundings. Ellen & Tom are such lovely welcoming hosts and on hand if you need them The hut was beautifully clean and so cosy We spent all of our time eating, dozing, reading and lots more eating For such a compact little place it had everything you could need, including a box of the most amazing eggs I’ve ever eaten! The fire pit/BBQ was lovely to cook on and everything was supplied to fire it up Will definitely visit again soon Nearly forgot to say, the cows were amazing. They kept us entertained.
