The detail
Situated in the fashionable New Town district, although technically not such a 'new' town - most of the buildings were built between 1767 and 1850 - these historic streets pulsate with culture, history and atmosphere. Fashionable shops, hip coffee shops and independent bars and restaurants make the city a wonderful place to experience a romantic break or enjoy a family trip.
The Boutique Bothy is certainly more boutique than bothy. This former shop, grade A listed, proudly makes up part of a handsome terrace and has been transformed into a cosy, but luxurious, bolthole. It truly is the perfect base for guests keen to get the most from Scotland's first city.
Stepping through the traditional stone door way, guests enter directly onto the polished wooden floorboards and into the cute, open-plan, living/kitchen and dining area.
The recently renovated kitchen is modern and well-equipped, and the breakfast bar makes a great place to enjoy some traditional Arbroath smokies, or maybe grab a coffee and settle into the window seat to take in the daily comings and goings of the quaint street outside.
After long days discovering the charms of the city, the comfy sofa, which converts into a sofa bed for two, offers a welcoming refuge. Kick off the shoes, pour a dram and curl up with an Inspector Rebus. The bedroom is a secret hideaway, wood panels cover the walls and a large double bed, dressed with hotel standard linens, will ensure you enjoy a deep and restful sleep tucked up in the cosiest of boltholes. In the morning, hop into the the walk-in shower room is chic and modern with on-trend hexagonal and metro tiles.
As one of the UK's largest and most visited cities, Edinburgh boasts a wealth of experiences for visitors to discover. Head to the iconic castle, wander the historic streets or simply pack a picnic, with goodies sourced from the great nearby delis or the Edinburgh Farmer's Market on Castle Terrace, and explore the nearby New Town Gardens.
